Address bar in FF35.0

Previous versions had a drop down arrow to manage search engines. One click called up Wikipedia, U-tube, Amazon, Google, etc. The new version doesn't do that. I've installed it twice and twice gone back to ver. 32.0.3.

I've searched a solution and can't come up with anything. I know FF is a popular browser so just wondering if this doesn't bother anyone else, or is there an add on or something I should know about to solve my problem. Thanks, Sandy

I'm using FF 35 and it has extensive search functionality. There is a dropdown arrow that appears as soon as you hover your mouse over the looking glass symbol in the search box. You click "Change search settings" to access/choose your default search engine and to specify all the alternative search engines available. Even after you have the default set, as soon as you type in the first character in the box, there is a dropdown menu that lets you choose among alternatives. Is this not working for you, or did you just miss it?

I didn't care for that feature and found settings under Tools -->Options, Search tab to customize mine.

did you try right clicking on the top bar and see if you have an additional toolbar listed there? if so uncheck it to make it go away. You normally have navigation, bookmark, if you see another one with that name that would be it you can try view then toolbars also to see if it might show there to uncheck. Was it not listed in your add remove programs list?. You might be talking about the google toolbar if so you can choose to hide it or remove it from firefox, I took it off of mine completely. Then to make your url area bigger you can right click up on the top of the bar and choose customize (or click view > toolbars> customize) then you should be able to drag out the url address bar bigger you can also while you have it in the customize state drag the google toolbar part off and into that customize box, that is where you can store various items you can add to your firefox bars. When it is in customize state you can also drag the google toolbar off of the bar with the url address bar and on to the bar below it if you want to have it there instead. Once you are all done moving things just close the customize box and it will lock it in place

You're describing 'Auto Complete' which is in internet options under the 'Content' tab. You can disable it there or read the little note how to delete forms.

for me all of my versions of firefox have the address bar on the menu bar perhaps right click and choose customize and see if you can drag the url bar on to it. make sure it has not been squeezed down so you can not see it because you can slide and move all of that stuff on the bars to the size you want it and it can get so squeezed it virtually disappears. There has to be a setting in about:config for it also but I don't know exactly which it would be. Menu Bar (File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help) Press ALT V T M (CTRL V T M on Macs) on your keyboard. This should restore the menu bar , You can also restore the menu bar by pressing Alt and going to View : Toolbars : Menu bar Navigation Toolbar Press Alt V T N (CTRL V T N on Macs) on your keyboard. You can also restore the Nav. Toolbar by going to View : Toolbars : Navigation Toolbar OR 1) click on start 2)go to all programs 3) roll down to mozilla firefox folder 4) click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode), check the box where is said you can enable the menu bar.

heartsy, I see you got got help with your problem. Thought I'd post it here. "Assuming you are using IE7: 1. Right click on the IE7 toolbar 2. Uncheck the "Lock the toolbars" 3. Right click on the IE7 toolbar, select your Google toolbar 4. Move the tool bars where you want them 5. Right click on the IE7 toolbar 6. Check the "Lock the toolbars" ".

Kudzu9, I just can't see how 1.HOVER, 2. CLICK "change search settings" 3. CHOOSE search engine 4. finally back to address bar is an improvement. But if they do show up after I type the first letter( without 1, 2 &3), I certainly did miss that. Hard to say for sure since I no longer have it. I'll try if/when I try it again,. Thanks

Pkponder, "I didn't care for that feature"... Which feature didn't you care for and were able to customize with Tools, Options, Search? Wondering if you were responding to my question or kudzu's answer. Still hoping I can make it work for me. Thanks

I never use the search tool in FF. I removed the search box completely from the toolbar area. I go directly to whichever site I want to use for a search.

I'm sorry that I didn't address you directly breenthumb. I don't care for using multiple search engines. I have one that I like and I customized Firefox to always use that one.

I didn't have any issues with following Kudzu's directions either.

One of the reasons Firefox updates is to provide security patches for newly discovered issues. You should consider moving to the current version for that reason alone.
