Sorry I haven't responded sooner. I had to go out of town today. I read through the responses and will go through them again. Today on the road I thought I'd take screenshots (the Samsung is supposed to make doing that easy) and post pictures of what happens. Then I decided to take it to the Geek Squad at BestBuy first, since I've had the tablet less than a week. The young lady at BB was able to get the nook app to let me read books when I'm not connected to wifi (I don't have 3 or 4g). But as everything with android so far - she got it to work but didn't know why it worked or what exactly she did to make it work. We sat side by side and she tapped through controls and settings and didn't seem to change anything. But it worked. On the way home I pulled over to the side of the road and checked and it was working. When I got home I checked it again and it is still working. I'm still mystified. She's the first to get it to work and I'm very appreciative. I'm going to install alkido and play with things for a couple days, then repost to update. I hope things are solved. Several people have said I should keep files on the sd card I installed. A couple people have said I need a file manager app to do that. Any suggestions? Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'll let you know how it goes.

I purchased Q home inventory prob a year ago worked with it probably two times and gave up.. the program is so bare bones, so elementary. I couldn't believe it. You will have to jump through ten hoops to accomplish what you should in 2. I could not believe the Quicken put out such an inferer product

I'm going to slightly disagree with lazy about the GIMP. It's free, but it still looks and functions like software designed by a committee. If you have Pshop experience, yeah, you can learn it fairly easily, but the documentation is absolutely terrible for people with no photo editing experience. She's right that it's very capable, though. But it's free, so you might as well try it. If you have a mac, try the GIMP derivative Seashore. It doesn't do exactly everything GIMP does, but it's easier and also free. I used to write books about Pshop, more specifically Pshop Elements, but these days I mostly use only Affinity Photo. If you have windows I don't know how the windows version is, since I only use it on the mac side. They have superb documentation on their site, alas for me (no book opportunity there). If you really want to grapple with PS or PSE, the free trials are here: http://www.adobe.com/downloads.html But these days I'd say that PS is easier to use than PSE, unfortunately. PSE is all junked up with useless clutter now and many of the tools don't work as well as they do in full PShop.

Why do you think it is taking longer? TLDR: See millworkman's comment - It really goes back to economies of scale, all things being equal, your house is less attractive to a sub-contractor, than someone who represents continued work. This is an absolute certainty and there are largely three ways to combat this. Hire someone who the sub will see as an opportunity for continued work to represent you (that is usually a G.C.), or pay more money so that the sub sees your job as more attractive, or find someone that has limited opportunities to work with G.C.'s (this can either be someone who does high quality work at a high price or low quality work for a mid price). Without one of those three things happening you need to anticipate delays. It is possible that your build will happen without any sub-contractor delays, however in most of the U.S. right now, that would be the exception and not the rule. Note: only a few years ago the situation was quite different so be wary of stories where everything went right a few years ago. Those delays can and do add cost, and you should anticipate their arrival and work to minimize their impact. ----- The most important thing about self contracting a project, is being honest with yourself about your abilities. That supposed savings is seductive, yet for most people it doesn't materialize, and not because it wasn't available, simply because those people were chasing savings over creating savings. The things that create savings for self-G.C.ing homes are actually the exact same things that would lead to some success as a contractor were you to enter that business. For example, a large part of G.C.ing is managing your time and schedule well, if you are excellent at managing time and scheduling, then you may create value, and if you were a G.C. that would be a viable pathway to value creation for clients. Or maybe you or your spouse are incredibly talented with construction, having done it for years, or maybe you are incredible at visualization and design so you can communicate and achieve your design efficiently. With all of these things, you are still going to encounter the economies of scale problem, but may still create some savings because of your skill set. However, most people want the savings without any efficiencies to create savings, and attempt to simply cut out a step in the value chain. That rarely works. G.C.'s create value, denying that value is a foolish move. Working to substitute your value for theirs might pay off, and it might not. But either way, they are earned savings and not simply avoided costs.
