RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

We don't have a Wii game system, although I'm thinking about getting it for hubby's birthday. I think the "sports" game, which includes bowling, boxing, golf, and others, comes with the console. If there are games that can be downloaded, I'm not aware of them. But I really don't know. Our daughter and her family just got a Wii for Christmas, so I'll have to ask her about accessories, etc.

Have you used Google to check for downloadable games?

Among the 'downloadable' games is a set of billiards games from a company called Hudson that appears to be far more sophisticated than those that come with the Wii wand or the disk sold retail. Hudson gets rave reviews. I am leery of raves and reviews but nevertheless it sounds attractive.

It would appear from Googling that Wii may be complicated, should one desire, beyond anything we older PC persons have encountered, at least since the very early days, and so far I have not found handy beginners references on-line.

For example Hudson won't respond to email even though they invite us to send email. Yes there are 'slots' to receive 'downloadables' via the internet but I've yet to find a site as to how to do it.

If you find more information, please post, as I would be interested.

RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games? More

I Googled, using "Wii games to download" as my search question. Lots of stuff came up. I recommend "How do download Wii games safely---and save money" for a good review of these sites.

And what are Wii "flash games"?

RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

There is a site gamefly where persons can rent Wii games. I have not found comments on business reliability or customer service. Some say that because it is advertised by Netflix who have good to excellent customer relations that gamefly might be a place to start learning Wii on the cheap.

I've fairly good rumor that most rechargeable batteries will not work with the Wii remote. One must choose search for a rechargeable that produces the full 1.5v. Most do not.

Still cannot get a beep or a whimper out of Hudson.

Over at Gardenweb's electronics forum wiifan4win has tested a download site for us. I am not set up for any downloads, I have to have a disk but this link might be of interest to someone.

RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

I just asked a clerk at target about DLoading older games and he showed me cards like calling cards that you use. They were on the same isle as the games.

RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

On another forum someone wrote of using a play station as a DVD player.

We tried and cannot figure out any way to use the Wii console as a DVD player.

Does anyone know if the Wii console can be used as a DVD player?

DS has the system and I watched him play tennis, bowling, baseball and he really got a workout. He has the exercie add on and says it is really great.
I think it i amazing at one point on one of the games a speaker asked would you like to take a rest?

For those interested and have a Target around
Buy two Wii games and get one free this week

 o
RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

I was told by a clerk in Target that you buy a card at their store and use that to download the older games you played on the Nintendo.

 o
RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

There is a forum Pool on the Nintendo Wii. Not much traffic. No one seems to be to interested in discussing it. Perhaps all enthusiasts are playing Wii and have no time to post. VBG etc.

RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

Spouse has a friend who is down on her luck and needed a bit of cash. Spouse could not really afford it but hired the friend to do some housecleaning. Friend sprayed the Wii wands with a dusting aerosol of some kind. We've finally gotten them cleaned with alcohol sponges and compressed air but, sheesh, don't spay you wand with something for wooden coffee tables.

BTW, I hear that a "coffee table" is now a "sofa table". Is that correct?

RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

A WII thread Wii games for the over-sixty crowd.

Another How Wii Fit are you?

Apparently there may be some more at staightope but their search will not look for only three letters.

RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

Wii and and Netflix now have some sort of arrangement. I don't understand it.

I'v see an rumor as to one reason why there are so few discussions of Wii on forums. The search function on some of the bigger forums won't find a three letter keyword.

 o
RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

I am thinking about buying one not for sports, but to play my old Mario and Yosi games on. My Super Nintendo finally died. I really miss playing them. Very relaxing.

RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

We got our Wii disk from Netflix. We're not quite sure why we got it. Something new to learn but we don't know if there are any benefits yet.

 o
RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

If you are a Netflix subscriber get the disk for the shelf while it is free. It is much inferior to using a PC or laptop and the HDMI - I think that is what it is called. One can now view 28,000 movies, they say, I haven't counted them, for the price of one disk. There are several hardware/software configurations. Even after only a quick test we feel the laptop and the cable noticeably superior to Wii.

 o
RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

Netflix on Wii just got easier. You can now do a short download to Wii and skip the disk. Now you don't have to swap out the spouse's sports disk to watch Netfilx.

 o
RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

A shortcoming of Netflix instant watch (IW) or streaming has been the dearth of titles with subtitles or closed captioning for the hearing impaired. There is now a blog Netflix InstantWatch titles with English Subtitles to help accommodate this shortcoming.

 o
RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

Should we start a new thread here on the conversations side about Netflix? Netflix questions don't last too long on the discussion side. They keep getting bumped off the bottom of the page with new questions.

 o
RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

If you are talking about playing games through Netflex wouldn't that be temporary. I want to own the games I play. I have been playing Yoshi's Island since it came out and never tire of it.

I assumed that when you use the card to buy one of the older games it would download to your computer, you click to install and click on to play as you would any download. I would back it up on an EX HD. I use FF and I set the downloads to be saved on the desktop. If you don't do that, you can go to start, search for Mario or the name of what you downloaded and it will show up (W 7) at the top of the list.

BTW on my previous post I said my Super Nintendo died, but it was the controller. Eventually it died also and I found a place that sells replacements.

 o
RE: Are there Seniors here interested in Wii games?

No, I was thinking about Netflix as a separate topic. Wii one topic. Netflix another. However if one does gaming using Netflix that would be a legitimate post under the Netflix title.
