Laminator!!

Does anyone have the Krylon Laminator?

I just bought one and when I put the paper through it has about 6 inches of laminate come out before it starts to laminate the item. This is such a waste!! Do I need to set something to stop this. This is the hand wind cold laminator. I just purchased it at Wal-Mart Thanks

OPPS ..IT IS CALLED THE E-Z LAMINATOR ...STILL NEED HELP PLEASE!!

Under the product tips section, there is a place to email questions.

If this is not the one you have , maybe try and see if there is another "Brand" mark on the product and see if they have a site you can ask quetions.

The guy in the kitchen department of my Lowe's said it can be done. He said to sand the old laminate first, then get all of the dust off. I'd still love to hear from someone who has tried it.

I have Shaw light maple in my kitchen and have had it for about 7 years. It still looks new. I don't think I have had any serious water issues and don't have any visable "dirt lines" either. It is a dream to clean and I just try to remember to sweep up the endless supply of crumbs that gather in my kitchen! That said, when I had my floor installed they were using glue, now most of these floors are click.

Will very light coil laminate’s rust cause no spark? That is all I could find troubleshooting my blower that had no spark. It was new to me about 1990 for 15.00. It has always started for it’s once or twice a year use. It actually started on ½ choke as normal and went to full power then it stopped. All test and a personal feel for a low spark showed no spark. I felt I would find points even though I was told in about 1990 it was like new. The owner started the blower and ran it as he said the two cycles are too temperamental. That is the original plug but I gauged no spark on two spark testers. Plus, my fill for spark, “Only” after I saw no spark vs my usual fear. Fuel was not the issue but I’m going to 50:1 Synthetic Mix from the 16:1 as labeled. Initially I felt it could be too much work until I noticed the Blower Housing was just below the Flywheel Housing (in independent sections to see the Ignition System). I lightly sanded the flywheel’s magnets and coil’s laminates and felt and saw spark with a turn by hand. I could see the coil to flywheel’s magnet’s gap was “Business Card Thin”, .010 or less. PS. A trimmer across the street heard I was into BBQ and Firewood. He trimmed two Pecan trees and cut the wood to be used for BBQ or Firewood, “Next Season”. A Mid Day’s Chore!

I am not really sure about the answer to your question. You can laminate wood onto anything really, lamination has several purposes (1) to stabilize hygroscopic wood expansion, (2) to lower costs and (3) to increase the board footage of particularly appealing wood pieces. When we talk about durability and quality of laminated products we are really talking about 1 and 2. Wood is hygroscopic so it expands and contracts with changes in humidity. Specifically the grain will swell, but they will not lengthen. So wood boards get wider but not longer. Laminates such as plywood stabilize the wood by making mechanically bonding boards to other boards facing different directions, as the grains attempt to swell in width the mechanical bond to other layers facing different inhibit the swelling. So what gives laminates stability is actually the mechanical bond of glue. So when talking about the quality of various laminates, the glue rather than the material is more important. I have had plywood start delaminating before it was even cut. I have no specific knowledge of this product but one of the advantages of wood on wood bonds (or any wood based materials) is how well they accept adhesion. I am not so sure you can achieve a great mechanical bond between wood and pvc. Now if they could do some kind of hydrosonic weld between pvc and wood it would work well, but pvc is much more difficult to glue than wood. Having said all of this, it really doesn't matter. The cabinets that I just replaced were solid wood and built in 1908. They were in perfect shape but really a kitchen built in 1908 no longer met our needs. Solid wood will last much longer than your lifetime when properly cared for, the same goes for quality laminates. I am not sure how much more round we can make that wheel. In the end, finding a material that will last two lifetimes is probably not worth the effort. Note: most of the pvc products are not laminates, they are solid pvc that are painted to look like wood. Not really a fan of those but whatever floats your boat.

Hi to another Gram, I have the EZ Laminator and have only used it twice before and also lamented how much waste there was. Last evening, I wanted to laminate just two little circles of pictures so I shoved them in as far as I could by hand, toward the roller. Voila, it only wasted about 2" rather than 6. So try inserting whatever you want to laminate in as far as possible. The refil cartridges are frightfully expensive.

I also have the EZ Laminator and my biggest complaint is NOTHING will stick to the laminate! I've tried all sorts of tapes and glues and can't find anything to stick. I'm in the middle of making some cute pop-up boxes but I'm having to staple them because I can't get anything to stick. Anyone have any ideas what might work?

try using QuickTite glue. It's like super glue, but you can get it in gel form, and it seems to work well on laminate. I got the idea from Summer on this group. You can purchase QuickTite at Walmart.

That pink double sided tape that they sell in the craft/stamping areas will work. Beads will stick to it. You can get it in different widths and even a fat width (about an inch)

Sharla, When I was making the laminate pins, I had the same problem with the pin back not sticking to the laminate. For those, I just used the single sided laminate cartridge, so the front of the pin was covered and the back was not. I'm not sure if this would work with your boxes.Bonnie

Yes, I use a glue called "QuickTite". It's in the hardware section of most stores that carry glue and is next to the superglue. It's in a similar container as super glue too, except you can buy this in a brush-on also. What I do when the brush doesn't reach the glue anymore, is shake it with the cap on tight so it will soak the brush. However, this is the glue I use on double sided laminate. Most people rouch up their laminate where the glued areas are going to be with a lightweight sandpaper before putting the glue on so the glue has something to grab. But I found that even after doing that, the other glues I tried don't work. The glue I use is the only one that works for me. But it may be because I have to laminate both sides because I have a thin laminate.

When I had a thicker laminate, I only had to laminate one side. So I roughed up the areas to be glued and my "Aleene's quick dry tacky glue" worked perfect. Others use Scotch glue permanent stick I think. But my Aleene's worked great for the job, but just for the one sided laminate. I still use that glue for un-laminated things however.
