Well, a little qualifier to that - 1) If you have a neighbor that's closer to the forest (deers' home), then talk them into planting some Knock Outs. They'll hit his yard before yours. ;-) 2) Be creative - Deer do not like unstable footing, neither do they like unusual lights. I placed a number of reflective balls in one of my gardens and laid some store-bought trellis pieces around the roses. The idea is that the reflections from the balls un-nerve them and the trellis wood on the ground gives them the heebie-geebies with their footing. Those things seem to have worked with me.

If you have scale you have ants. Ants farm the scale. They bring it to the plant and eat the secretions. Systemic poison like orthene helps. Work on getting rid of the ants.

It would help to see a picture of the entire plant or, at the least, a description of the entire plant. The 6th (I think) image -- darkish leaves -- may be a flowering crabapple. tilleys26, Jack's magic will work well to keep the iron in solution. I would suggest that you use a filter aid in your sand filter. This will help the filter hold the fine particles that it is unable to catch. Don't worry about the chlorine until you get the water cleared up. Sand filters work fine once the water is clear. DE filters work much more quickly to clear the water. Go to a pool store and ask about a filter aid to add to your sand filter. Be patient and continue to filter 20+ hours a day until it is clear. Water trucks generally have iron tanks. You may have traded one iron source for another. As the water starts to clear you can start raising the alkalinity and calcium hardness. Good luck.
