I've been MIA this week, dealing with heating issues. It's too bad GW didn't follow up on Nan's suggestion for a regional calendar for the New England forum. One of my goals was to have the info here on GW so we wouldn't have to remember to check elsewhere. Searching the existing GW calendar by state produced a bizarre result: all the same ads which previously had shown as located in New York, Moscow, London, etc. now showed as being in New York, NH, Moscow, NH, London, NH, etc. There do appear to be a few authentic event listings, but so much garbage to wade through I find it useless. If nothing else good comes from requests for a regional calendar, I hope GW wakes up and cleans up the existing calendar. I agree that Katy's idea of a moderated post is brilliant. Doubt that a standardized email would fly  probably spend as much time reminding folks of the format as actually gathering information. Nan's blog seems like a reasonable alternative. I've checked out http://newenglandgardenevents.blogspot.com/ and you've done a great job! Did you get a sense of how much work is involved to maintain it once the learning curve has been climbed? My only experience with blogs to date comes from following a link to one when someone posts it, but am willing to learn, am comfortable with techie stuff, and help if I can. Rita, Usually, most of us are referring only to snap beans/shelling beans if we are talking about pole beans or bush beans. Usually we say Lima if we're talking about Limas. Lima beans are sort of picky about the weather and a lot of folks who grow beans don't grow Limas. I don't know why. Lima beans need warmer weather so I put them in a little later than snap or shell beans. Lima beans are fairly heat-tolerant (with baby Limas seeming to have the best heat tolerance) but excess heat will make their blossoms drop. So, you may or may not get a crop from your Limas in any given year. That's true with snap or shelling beans too though. Since it is so hot this year, I'd probably wait and plant Limas next spring. We've only been hitting 101-104 but my garden isn't any happier than yours is. I agree rain water is best, and it is clouding up and we have a thunderstorm watch, so I'm hoping for rain (not hail!). Anything in my garden that suffers blossom drop because of high temps sure is suffering from blossom drop the last 2 weeks, but before that I was getting lots of bush snap beans. My bush limas (and pole limas) haven't flowered yet, but were planted about a month later than the snap beans. I am hoping they'll flower during a 'cool spell' so they can set beans instead of dropping flowers. It is a frustrating year. I've seen plans for those wooden towers, trellises or tuteurs in various gardening books and magazines so I'm sure you probably can google and find some building plans online. Dawn

Okay-buehl and Erin-is the only 2016 Dr. Who calendar available Peter Capaldi? (I guess I could look that up online). And funky-I used to have my phone emails signed as "Sent from the TARDIS", but never thought to use the music or the sound for anything. My favorite calendars for myself are the free ones we get from charities we have donated to, but I like to get the Vintage University of WA one for my son-in-law every year: Vintage Huskies Football Calendar.
