Is there a way to convert my slides to hard copies using my own printer? I have so many old family slides and my budget can't afford what photo shops want. I have an HP PhotoSmart C6180. Anyone??

Thx, Minnie, going to post there right now!! I do so want to do these myself if possible and, outside of the cost, I just really don't want these very valuable old slides to leave my hands!!

I put one down on my scanner nd just scanned it and then did a little editing.
it came out ok (from 1958) others were too dark

Oh, how cute!! The great days of stairstep aged children! I'm sure you followed those who responded to this same request on the computer forum. I'm saving all this for a winter project. Too many to do. But you achieved success getting it onto the hard drive! I, too, may just try using the scanner I have as you did.

My DH purchased something on line from Buy.com and converted tons of slide to the computer to disks. It came from Germany and it took a long time as he had to adjust color etc on many. If you are interested let me know, and I will get the name.

For some of their digital cameras, Nikon makes an accessory for copying slides. It holds the camera and slides. This appliance includes proper lighting and the camera copies the slide. The digitized images can then be adjusted and copied to storage medium. A popular format is .jpg, but a lossless format such as .tiff may be more desireable. I know of a person who archived over 3000 slides in this manner. (In the early part of his career, he had been a fashion photographer and as such had many pics of exotic locations.)
