The Field Guide to Edible Plants has nice drawings but it is modern. I lookedd an found Urticacaea and Umbelliferae. There are also lots of U's in a book called Wild Flowers by Homer House. It is out of print, my copy is copywrited 1934, it has beautiful color illustrations, hope this helps. Are you doing an alphabet book? Email me.

Some time ago I did a google image search for wikipedia commons "botanical prints" & found a number that I liked. Doing an image search facilitates the whole process - you instantly see a thumbnail of the print. I also did an image search for rose "botanical prints" to look in other sources. You might try searching images for Graham Stuart Thomas; he did some lovely artwork of roses (if you haven't already). Then, of course, once you get to a good website, you can troll it for ages. This was one of my favorite time-wasters! Actually, it wasn't a time-waster, since I found a lot of lovely pictures. BTW, 1 or 2 of the rose websites I found had links to botantial prints. If I ever figure out which ones had the links, I'll post it. Please tell us how the pictures come out! Oh, there's one caveat: some or many of the images will be small, even after you click on the option for the larger image, and enlarging the image reduces the quality. If you find a workaround for this, I'd LOVE to know.

Think carefully before buying antique prints rather than reprints. The bigger the market, the greater the encouragement for nasty people who go in to a library and razor out the prints, leaving a carcass behind. It is not only a problem aesthetically, but these are often important resources for scientific research. Ludwig M... allegedly commissioned the thefts according to the market value of botany and zoology classics... Thefts even happen even with more recent books. I saw one that had all the color plates ripped out by someone who used a ball point pen (!). Replacement of that volume was a low priority for the library as their budget was pretty tight and the text was still there, but any future readers lost out. The best part of this project completion has been DH's reaction. The basement furnishings are more transitional / modern feeling and more masculine. He came into the area and sat down on a sofa, looked around and said, "This is REALLY nice." He looked carefully at everything, sat in all the chairs and sofas and claimed a sofa for his own. From a man of few words, this was high praise! After the final botanical charts and pieces of majolica are up I am finished with this space in terms of accessories, we are going to take the light off the fan (wasn't supposed to be there) and finish up the bathroom, but essentially the living spaces are complete. That is a great feeling, to know there's nothing more to shop for, especially since my initial thought was that the charts would be placeholders for "real" art (paintings). I am so glad we made the decision to do the whole space with those prints and I don't need to to change any of it in the future unless I just want to.
