BTW, beware of answers from posters in warm parts of the country. Since you want climbers, you'll want to choose a rose that is reliable CANE hardy (not just hardy enough to come back and re-grow after winter knocks it back.) Look at the Canadian Explorer roses like John Davis, Capt. Samuel Holland: or, Marie Victorin for example. You'll have no problem with them covering your fence year after year. You'll find them hardy and although you may not have constant flowering, you will get good reblooming through the season. Plus there should be no need to spray them for disease. Be ready to give them about 3 years to mature in size - and then enjoy! Good luck, Anne

If the soil is peaty, I'd repot it again now too. With those *GIANT* windows, anything that doesn't require significant direct sun should do well. If you plan to live there indefinitely, (I'd have to be dragged out, kicking & screaming...) and you'd enjoy more plants, you might look at a few that are usually too big for the average home/window, like Monstera deliciosa, and bird of paradise (Strelitzia, there are several diff species.) Trees like various types of Dracaena, Schefflera (actinophylla is the bigger one,) and China doll (Radermachera) are usually fairly easy to find. Palms! I need to click submit now before I start rhapsodizing about the plants you could hang...!

Where do you live? I ask because, most typically, people start seedlings in the early spring and plant them outdoors while the seedlings are short and stocky. Your plants are not getting enough light for stocky growth nor are they getting enough light to resist sunburn when planted outdoors. The color of your lighting makes me curious. What is the brand and model of your T8 bulbs?

However, most applications of landscape fabric are covered with a mulch. And weed seeds will germinate quite readily in most mulches, which will tend to break down in time to a soil-like texture anyway unless routinely refreshed. And even rock mulches will collect plant debris (unless blown off weekly) that will also provide a base for weed seeds to germinate. So the landscape fabric is really only a very temporary deterrent to weeds appearing. A decently thick layer of mulch will accomplish the same thing and without the potential for weed roots to grow through and get tangled in the cloth/fabric, so far easier to remove If you search these forums and elsewhere online, you will find countless negative reports about the use of landscape fabric. It all boils down to the essential concept that it is more trouble than it is worth and does not effectively stop weed development. Most professionals that do routine landscape maintenance tend to avoid it like the plague. I too have been landscaping professionally for several decades and I only use it as a underlayment for a hardscape installation........and not always then.
