Need your opinion on air purifiers

No matter how much I clean, there is always dust in the corners and by baseboards. It just seems that there is too much dust in the air so I decided to look into getting an air purifier. There are tons of different options and prices. I don't think I need a hepa filter as I don't have allergies but would like something that reduces dust.

I'm looking for your opinions of air purifiers. Do they reduce dust? Which model do you have? How much are the filters? How ofter do you replace them?

I've had a number of air purifiers over the years and the one we have now has been the best - Nature's Air Purification - and does help with airborne dust particles.

I had the least amount of dust in our house when we had NO wall-to-wall carpets and now we are in a new home and have ALL wall-to-wall carpets. I think carpets are the biggest culprit for much of the "dust" in our home, even though I vacuum 3X a week (2 adults and no pets).

Have you tried installing a quality electrostatic air filter, or a high-quality pleated filter, on your furnace? We keep the fan of our central heat/air conditioner unit on constantly, and this helps remove a lot of the dust. Plus we clean (or change) the filter once a month.

You may also benefit from having your air ducts cleaned, but nothing will completely eliminate dust because there are so many things constantly contributing to it.

Since it's impossible to eliminate, I'm hoping we at least reach the point of equilibrium where we are tracking as much dust OUT of the house, as we are bringing in (LOL).

I think that air purifiers reduce dust in the air, but dust that has settled to the floor isn't going to be picked up by an air purifier. Grainlady' suggestions about the furnace filter is where I would start.

Thanks for the input, grainlady and graywings. I live in an apt so there is no furnace. All heat is thru water pipes. There are no ventilation ducts in the apt except in the bathrooms and I cleaned those out. All my floors are hardwood. So I'm thinking this air purifier is the only way for me to capture some dust.

I'll check out Nature's Air Purification.

I had an ionic air purifier in my bedroom. It was next to the TV and apparently the static electricity caused the TV picture tube to fail. This was about 15 years ago. I didn't notice (when it was working) if it helped the air quality. I have allergies that it didn't help.

We all got headaches from our ionics. Combined with our new Miele vacuum as a "one-two punch", a whole-house HEPA system seems to be the best option so far for reducing allergies and dust.

We have two Ionic Air Purifier's. I now dust way less than I used to.

allergy speciaists do NOT recommend ionics. Especially bad for asthma.
