Hi Sam, I'm sorry no one seems to be coming up with a recipe for you. Not much of a recipe, but I spot clean rugs with a little dish detergent mixed with water.

And I spot clean with a 50-50 mix of water, hydrogen peroxide and a squirt of Dawn dishwashing liquid, and a nice scrub brush. Blot dry with paper or cloth towels. This once worked when I spilled a cup of coffe with milk and sugar on my white bedroom carpet. Also great on pet stains of any kind.

Vinegar water works great to clean carpets, does not leave a residue to attract dirt.

Krissie: I'm using vinegar more and more as my main cleaning product. Can you post your proportions for carpets? How are you applying the solution?

Does anyone use a floor steamer on their carpets? Haven't dared this one yet in case it just makes a mess.

Kay161, I'm a professional carpet cleaner and the real negative of the floor steamer on carpet is that if you have a lot of dirt or a messy spot there isn't a way to really rinse\extract the mess except maybe through the pad absorbing it during the steaming.
