How to get the white chalky stuff off the sides of 2nd hand glass bricks other than spending an hour with the scraper for each single block?

What is the chalky white stuff? Mineral deposit from water? If so, you could try Lime Away.

I've got brand new glass blocks and they have the white stuff on the sides. I believe it is paint. Scrape, scrape, scrape!

i cleaned around 1000 blocks today in about 4-5 hours with a petrol powered high pressure water sprayer.
