How do you clean a lamb's wool duster?

Posted by daphnar (My Page) on

Just got one. Never owned one before. Dusted great but now the remains of the dust kitty are in the wool.

Do I just leave it there? Will it come off on what I'm trying to clean next time?

Cleaning instructions on the package say to hand wash and then comb (?!) The lamb's wool is thick - a big mush. Not sure any comb would ever get through it.

Advice appreciated.

Between washings, when I have the vacuum out, I vacuum mine with just the hose (no attachments). Gets all the dirt out.

I forgot to add that when I wash the duster, I hang it from with the wool pointing down. When it is dry, I fluff it out by rolling the handle quickly between my palms. (I have never combed it out.)

I stuff it into the vacuum hose between washings.

"Washing" is a swish in sudsy water and a rinse.

One thing you want to make sure of is that the wool is not glued on if you are going to wash it. The glue may be water based and ruin in. You can wash them with just a touch of dish detergent and let it air dry. Roll it between your hands and it will bounce right back and look brand new!

Yes, the glue dissolved on mine when I washed it.

Shake it outdoors. I would never wet mine.
