Vacuum cleaner sucking tons of fuzz out of new carpet

We just moved into a new rental house, and the vacuum cleaner (Eureka Altima) is sucking TONS of fuzz out of the new carpet, and a fair amount out of the upstairs carpet (which isn't nearly as new- at least a couple years old). I set it on the highest carpet level possible, but still have fuzzing. In fact, I vacuum the area 1x a week, and in between vacuumings I notice little fuzz balls that form on the carpet surface. Should I be concerned, or is this "normal" for a new carpet?

I don't know about the upstairs carpet, but it's normal to vacuum up a lot of fuzz from new carpet. It can go on for weeks.

Yep, normal in my experience, too.

If the carpet is inexpensive and especially if it is a cut pile, this is not unusual. It should start to go away after a few weeks. You will probably notice some fuzz balls as you start to create a traffic pattern as well. Also wool carpets will have a tendancy to pill a bit (now all wool however), when they are new. Sounds like your vacuum is doing it's job. |

I had a beautiful oriental rug I really liked. I noticed my vacuum was sucking the wool threads out. Within six months,it had bare spots and I had to throw it out. My vacuum (at the time) had a dial to control the suction. In my ignorance, I put it on maximum and never changed it. Wish I had known better.

I have two different types of wool area rugs. I got them on QVC. They are beautiful and very heavy with a thick pile. One vacuums normally, the other sheds constantly. It fills up my vac in no time. I inquired about it and they said it will always do that. That is how that companies carpet is made. It sure is a pain.

When my sister had new carpeting installed the fuzz plugged up her vacuum so badly she had to take it in to be serviced. The repairman told her that you should never use a "good" vacuum on new carpet. He actually advised her to use an old vacuum for several weeks before going back to her good one. (as if we all have old "bad" vacuums in the wings)

Ha ha, I had two "bad" vacuums but I threw them away when I got a "good" one. LOL at my dumb self.
