Carpet Sweeper?

| I really need one. I hate to vacuum so the house only gets vacuumed every two weeks when the cleaning person comes. If I'm lucky, I can get my husband to vacuum--health problems have resulted in the vacuum being too heavy for me. Anyway-------does anyone have one that's good? I've looked on the internet and have seen many different ones and many different judgments that they don't work well! I see that Fuller Brush has one--kind of pricey ($59.99). Saw a review of a Hokey sweeper and the person said it was worthless. Saw a review of a Bissel, and someone said the same thing.

The only thing a carpet sweeper does is pick up lint and such from the top of the carpet. You are only going to get bad reviews of them because they don't clean. Look for one with a revolving brush at the lowest price and it will do the same as the expensive ones. If you find a 40 or 50 year old one at a garage sale, it will do just as good of a job, if not better. Carpet Sweepers were popular back when because carpet was flat and everyone was on a budget. They went out when shag carpet was in. Then folks were spending big bucks on plastic garden racks that are everyday now. LOL Carpet Sweepers are retro now and I can only say HUH? Why bother? If you sweep your carpet with a broom and use a piece of junk mail as a dust pan. You are doing the exact same thing. LOL

Gammy, I mostly want it for the bare wood floors. I use a Swiffer, which picks up dust and pet hairs, but not anything else that may be on the floor. Helen

I love my Carpet sweepers. I use them everyday and am surprised how much they pick up. I have a Tru Value and some others that I've picked up at estate sales for a dollar or two. I use the vac once or twice a month but it is heavy and so noisy that I have to use ear plugs when I use it. or them since I have an upright and a canister.

Minnie, thanks for the reply. I think I will get a carpet sweeper. We have a True Value hardware store in town so I'll check that out. Helen

GammyT, you are so wrong. A carpet sweeper is ideal for wood or tile floors. It eliminates the need to vacuum. It picks up everything and empties in a snap, outside your door...the stuff blows away in the wind. A dustpan never gets it all, does it? A carpet sweeper does. In my opinion, it is worth its weight in gold. Oreck has a really great one. It's also wonderful for your indoor/outdoor carpet, in the basement, on your porch or in your pontoon!

I just got another one at an estate sale Friday. This one is a Fuller brand. I tried it out on the floor of the house the sale was in and it did a great job. Paid a lot this time $4 haha. I emptied it in the yard before bringing it in the house. I think this is the best one yet. I was thinking of what my sister once said. She liked hers because it picked up sewing pins. You could also tape or glue a magnet to the bottom of them too.
