If you have a Sherwin Williams paint store near you, give them a call and see if they can offer some help. I believe there is a treatment with vinegar, but not sure of all the steps for removing the Murphy's Oil residue with it. We had a friend do the same thing and he had to refinish the table.

BTW, throw the Murphy's Oil Soap away. It's doesn't clean, it coats the surface with an oil that dulls the finish and can damage old varnishes. You will find most manufacturers of fine wood products (cabinets, wood floors) state clearly NEVER use Murphy's Oil Soap on their products. Hubby has been in the custom cabinet business for 40-years (VP in charge of customer service) and Murphy's Oil Soap and Liquid Gold do more damage to cabinets than nearly anything else on the market. Mild soap and water to clean, and a soft cloth to dry is all you really need.
