White "stain" on stainless steel dishwasher

Since I've lived in my house there has always been a white "stain" on my dishwasher. It looks as though something dropped down the side and front on it. I have tried cleaning it off using all types of SS cleaners, a paste of barkeeper friends, and even tried silver polish and a whole lot of buffing. NO luck. Does anyone know how I may be able to fix this short of replacing the SS faceplate?
