Daughter spilled detergent, What To Do?

My 25 YO recent college grad managed to spill liquid laundry detergent on the family room rug. I tried wetting it and blotting with a towel but there is a six inch across blue circle that remains. Any suggestions? Should I keep adding water and blotting? Might alcohol or vinegar help?

If it were me I would call a carpet cleaning company. That would be much cheaper than replacing the carpet. There is oil in most cleaners that dust will cling to. I had a whiskey sour spilled on my carpet and I should have called a cleaner. No matter how many times I cleaned the spot the dust stuck to that sugary spot and was visible.
