Could you use heavy-duty binder clips to hold the bottom together, instead of sewing it, so it's a reversible "fix"? If that would work, I'd also suggest dumping the bag after each use. I suspect your vacuum will work more efficiently with an empty bag.

Another way to reduce the cost is to sweep or use a dust mop first to get the dust bunnies and large particles, use the vacuum for the fine stuff.

BE CAREFUL ... because the bag is what defends the motor from damaging grit. You could save a few bucks on the bag and lose way more with a damaged vacuum.

I bought generic bags by the dozen off Amazon for my vacuum cleaner.

Do you mean this product? 8 replacement bags are $35. Still pricy, IMO, but maybe worth it to people with dust allergies.

Graywings: Yes, that is the bag. For some reason my eyes did not see the "8". What a relief, it is not $35 for one bag. Still pricey but worth it since we have allergies. That price makes bags more affordable and not have to cut/stitch next time.

I want to add that I hate hate hate hate hate bag-free vacuum cleaners. I hate all that cleaning out the filters(and dust chamber) that are all loaded up with dust and dog hair...DISGUSTING! I wish that vacuum cleaner companies would put their efforts into designing a cordless vacuum rather than worrying about a stupid darn bag! I have no problem whatsoever changing out a bag. I loathe trying to fight with the cord constantly.

Would a stapler work along with some metal/silver duck tape. That stuff is strong and should hold the bag together.
