how to clean rag rug

Posted by lindyk (My Page) on

I have a 5x8 rag rug that I love, but apparently the dog peed on it at some point, and now it smells. I tried Febreze, but that was only a temporary fix. There are no visible stains, so I can't spot treat it. It's too big for the washing machine, and the carpet cleaning company wants $64 to clean it (the rug cost $100 new).

Any suggestions? Thanks.

First of all, what type of material is the rug made of. Do you have a laundrymat that has industrial washers close by, you could try that.

Or you can take the rug outside and hang it on the closeline and wash it with the hose and let it dry outside. The sun & wind with help with the odor....just make certain not to leave out in the sun for several days because the sun will bleach some on the color out.
