Ned Good Iron

My iron just broke. Not sure what's out there in the world of irons today with the exception of what I've seen on QVC. Does anyone have any recomendations or features I should be looking for? What makes a good iron these days & how much should I expect to pay? If it makes any difference I do allot of ironing.

LOVE my Rowenta. It has good balance, and I had no idea there were 'good' and 'bad' irons. I got the Rowenta advice here on this forum, and thought, HEY, DH has to get better tools to do what he has to do around the house, why not me?

I don't iron a lot so I got the Rowenta that runs around $40. They do go up as high as around $140.

At the time, Consumer Reports rated Rowenta highest also. I just checked, and now their top ranked iron, is this one:
Black & Decker Digital Advantage D2020, although several rowentas are also still pretty highly ranked.

Worth checking both of them out!

I love my Rowenta, too. Great irons IMO.

I think I read in Consumer Reports awhile back that the Rowenta would develop leaks easily. My daughter paid a lot of $$ for one and within six months it was leaking. Now she just buys a cheap Black n Decker - when they wear out, she's not out much money. Just a thought.

Well I ended up getting a Rowenta - not the $100 model but a $69 one & while I only used it once I LOVE it! It's much lighter weight than my previous one & since I'll spend hrs at a time ironing it'll be easier on the cramping hand. The stainless steel airglide sole plate really does just glide. It has continueous steam which I always get on my irons but the burst of steam is SO powerful, which again just makes the job much easier. Let's hope it lasts.

re: Rowenta: I have had mine for at least 2 years, and it does not leak.

Ebay. Look for vintage irons - the black and chrome ones from the 1950s and 1960s. You'll pay more in shipping than the item costs, but they get hot as h3ll, don't have auto shut off (if you don't want that) and they will last your lifetime.

Here is a link that might be useful: Here's an example: search criteria 'electric -travel' in category irons

Rowenta. I've had mine for 3 years. Never leaks.
