Orange Glo Hardwood Cleaner/Brazilian Cherry/A Mess

Cleaning Solid Brazilian Cherry Hardwood Floors

My floors are solid, Brazilian cherry hardwood with three coats of semi-gloss polyurethane finish. I used Orange Glo Hardwood Cleaner and Polish and it made a mess of the floors. There is a haze and blotchiness and they look just awful. What can I do to remove the Orange Glo without damaging the floors? Thank you

Is this Orange Glo an oil or a wax?

Sorry to hear of your problem. We, too, had a similar situation a few months ago when our house cleaners used some on our floors. It wasn't a total mess, but it did need to be cleaned up. I called a local floor company and asked for their recommendation. They suggested just damp mopping or sponging with a mixture of vinegar and warm water, and depending on the severity of the problem, it might take several attempts. When discussing this matter, they sure didn't think too highly of Orange Glo (and that's putting it mildly). They also said to stay away from Murphy's Oil. And yes, our house cleaners had both Orange Glo and Murphy's Oil in their bucket of supplies! Hope other posters offer good suggestions as well. Good luck!

White vinegar and water is what I'd use. And once you get the residue off, only use vinegar and water for future cleaning.

NEVER NEVER NEVER use oily products on hardwood floors. We don't even use products on our furniture - never.

ohmygosh, I had your exact problem about a year ago, and thought I was going to go insane!!!! Our Brazillian cherry floors were not very old, and I thought I had completely ruined them. I used everything I could find, scoured the internet, etc. The one thing that finally worked was a product by Holloway House. It's called Deep Cleaner/Wax Remover -something like that. I remember you have to mix it with HOT water, and I used the blue scotch brite (the non-scratchy one). Work in smallish (2ftx2ft) areas, completely clean that area and then move to the next area. It was still some elbow work, but at least it DID work, unlike everything else I tried. I only use the Bissell steam mop on my floors now. Soooo much easier, and of course, never any problem with residue.
good luck... I feel your pain!

Sorry to hear you had problems with this product as did we. We used Bruce Clean N Strip to remove the Orange Glo Polish and then applied the Bruce Fresh Finish. Below I put the link to my original post on the flooring forum.

after you get the orange glo (gasp) off your wood floors..try Bona hardwood floor cleaner..I used it for my first time today and was very happy with the product! It's also environmentally safe, non toxic.

I believe the Orange Glo cleaner (not cleaner and polish) is made by Bona and is essentially the same product.

They are not the same. The Orange Glo website has this FAQ:
Is the Hardwood Floor Refinisher made by Bona Kemi?

Orange Glo Hardwood Floor Refinisher was developed in partnership with Bona Kemi, the world's leader in wood floor finishes.

ok.. Curiosity killed the cat! I called orange glo company. .Bona does not make their products. She said long ago they did, but not for a long time now. Orange Glo is not environmentally safe like Bona either. So they are totally two different products.

That's funny I have a bottle of the OrangeGlo floor refinisher right in front of me and it says right on the front of the bottle "from BonaKemi, manufacturer of the original Bona X swedish formula.

I agree, but it's just the cleaner, not the cleaner and polish.

We have the exact same problem with Orange Glo. White hazy residue that has trapped dirt and all the hardwood looks horrible. Suggestions for removal??? We got an estimate from a flooring specialist for removal totaling $1,680. We cannot afford this. My Husband is retired and not in the best of health. I cannot get on my hands and knees and scrub all this junk off. We should probably file a class action law suit for all the problems related to their product.

I tossed what was left of Orange Glo cleaner and polish. Never used it on my hardwood floor, but didn't care for it on my cherry cabinets and have moved on to other things. When we had our maple floors refinished a couple of years ago, they gave me Glitza products to use. It went on like honey and left a residue and really didn't clean as well as I would have liked -- a real aerobic workout every time and I dreaded the challenge. I used the Bona hardwood floor cleaner for the first time yesterday, and it was a breeze to use and the floors look great.
I'm really sorry for all of you that had that problem with Orange Glo on your floors.

My contractor gave me a can of Orange Glo for cleaning my hatural oak kitchen caninets. It took a lot of elbow grease but worked okay. I wouldn't buy it based on this post, nobody thinks too much of it.
