Upright vacuum choices

I've read through the vacuum threads and still have questions. I've owned an Electrolux upright for 15+ years with few problems, however since Electrolux has changed to Aerus, the vacuums are too pricey for me. I'm looking at the Riccar, Miele, Oreck (top of the line model to fit under furniture) or Sebo. I'm confused as I read on one post that some Mieles are made by Panasonic. Why is that? Also, where is Sebo manufactured? I want another upright that works very well and will last me 15+ years like my Electrolux has. Thanks for any help and suggestions.

What you probably read was that Miele uprights are made by Panasonic in Spain. This is called outsourcing. Sometimes companies do this to save money. It cost alot to bring one model to market. Miele is more familiar with canisters and feels more comfortable with making them. Even Aerus has models made by others. Sebo vacuum cleaners are made in Germany. They are very well made vacuum cleaners that will last for many years. I could see the Sebo lasting around 15yrs. if it is taken care of. Riccar and Simplicity vacuum cleaners are another two lines, from Tacony, that are quality and perform very well. If you want the Miele uprights, I think that you would be better off purchasing the Panasonic Performance Plus Platinum series. Or, just go with the Riccar/Simplicity. These two have very good warranties, if anything should break down. Check out the Sebo, Riccar, and Simplicity and see how they work for you.

I'm wondering what's wrong with your Electrolux that you want to get rid of it?

pkguy-The top of the canister broke along the hinge side. If I'm careful when I change the bags, it doesn't fall off and I can clamp it back down securely. I've had the vacuum repaired a couple times over it's lifetime and I figure it's days are numbered. I don't want to invest any more money in it which is why I'm looking into finding something new. This one I'll hand down to one of my kids who is in college.

If you want a long-lasting upright, my Mom's ancient Hoover has been running over 50 years. It has all the original parts, except it has had several replacement belts. It has the original fabric bag.

I don't know about anyone but I love my Kirby Sentria. I negotiated a great price but if you cannot afford new, they also are great used too. Built like tanks and I've been impressed how clean they get the floors too.
