Vacuums-Is it just me?

But are bagless vacuums the worst invention ever? What was so wrong with a bag? You put a bag in, it fills up and you put a new one back in...simple right? Those bagless vacuums are the messiest biggests pains to clean I've ever seen. Any time I have to clean the filters I have a sneezing allergy fit. So please can someone tell me how this is an improvement over a simple bag? I have never in my life had any trouble finding the right bag nor have I ever come home with the incorrect bag so what's the point of bagless other than making housecleaning even more painful? Can you guess I just cleaned my bagless vac? HAHA!

Clap! Clap! Clap!!!!!
I sometimes have trouble finding the correct bag....and a couple of times my cleaning lady has put in the wrong bag causing a dust explosion...
But I still think the remove it, toss it replace it scenario is a whole lot better than the alternative!

RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

And if you're REALLY lucky you bought a model that requires a $20 filter that needs to be replaced every 3 months...and NO ONE carries your filter...

Barb (but I do like to see the dirt flying around in circles in the canister - I know "Get a life", huh??!!!)

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I also made the mistake of buying one form HD.

I tried to use it for a couple of weeks, then discovered what a pain it was to empty. I also discovered that it does not do well with pet hair (I've got three big dogs).

I did call Bissell and ask them if I was doing something wrong, no I wasn't.

HD has a 90 day return policy, I called first to tell them what the problem was, they told me to bring it back for a refund. I did. Now I'm back to using a regular bag vacuum.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Oh yeah and I forgot the cost of replacing those filters, thanks for reminding me Barb...haha!!!!! I can't even imagine having to clean a filter after vacumming up hair from 3 dogs! SG, It's lucky you were able to return it! I had a large lab mix and he shed so much that I had to vacuum every single day but at that time I had my old bag vacuum so all I had to do is stock up on extra bags! No way would a bagless vac work with(3)dog's hair! Those foam filters would be clogged after one time! I guess those dyson vacs aren't like the typical bagless but I can't afford a $600 vac! Jeez!

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I like mine. I take the filter out and hit it against a tree. I rarely replace them and they are working fine. I just really hate a throw away mentality. I dump mine in the compost pile or even just empty it in the yard. No pets here.

RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Wow, I'm glad Gloria chimed in or I'd feel like a real oddball, as well as a newbie to this forum :-) I love my bagless upright vac! I think it's easy as pie to empty (I just hold the canister inside a grocery bag and tip it) and clean - I love the way all the parts, including both prefilters, can be removed and washed in warm soapy water, and they dry in no time. The post filter does need replacement a few times a year, but I feel it's better than replacing bags. I also feel better not adding more to our wastestream. With four children, two adults and one dog in this house, any vac is going to get a workout; I love gardening (bringing my "work" inside with me more often than I'd like to admit) and this area has a fine, silty sandy soil that the plants seem to love but it tracks in easily and is difficult to clean up.

When I brought the vac home, I first vacuumed sections with my old, but very respected brand, canister vacuum and a newer bagged upright (both had new empty bags), then I went over the same areas with my new upright ... WHAT a difference!

Maybe it does come in under the "get a life" category, lol, but I, too, love to see the dirt and dog hairs swirling around in the canister!

Bottom line, though, as I see it, is that whoever does the cleaning should get to pick the tools he/she feels most comfortable with.

RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I too like my bagless Windtunnel upright. It is not a problem for me to empty, or tap the filter out. Frequently I blow it out with a small compressor. It is suggested that the $22 filter be replaced once a year, but I don't see where it is all that necessary if it is blown out frequently...just as one would a shop vac filter.

I cannot believe the amount of suction that is lost when the filter needs cleaned. I assume that when using a bag, that the bag itself is the filter, and once they bag has been used, that it will continue to loose suction until it is full and replaced.

RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I bought a hoover bagless at HD and after the first use I brought it back because it was much harder to clean then to change a bag. I have a dog also and I tried to clean the cup in the kitchen and the dirt particles went all over as I was trying to get out the dog hair.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Arkansasgirl... as someone who collects vacuums as a hobby and PASSION, and sold them for a few years both at a major retailer (Sears), and door to door... let me tell you you are CORRECT. Bagless vacs are a terrible fad... the manufacturers want people to think they are saving money, time, and effort by going bagless. Unless you have a Dyson (and most people who have bagless do not), you are doing anything but! Great truthful observation!

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I'd love to have a Dyson (I think anyway)...haha! But the cost is out of my budget and this vacuum I have is only a couple years old so I'll probably just have to wait until this one wears out and gripe every time I have to clean the filters. HAHA!

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I don't like cleaning the filters. I take it outside and knock it against something but then feel like I have dust all over me. Or I suppose you could use a 2nd vacuum to vacuum the filer:0

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

HEY don't laugh, I've actually used a second vacuum to vacuum the filter off...HEEHEE!!!!!! NO LIE!!!!! ;)

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Funny you should say that. I acutally used to TELL my customers that were interested in a bagless vac that they should buy a bagged vac just to clean up the mess from the bagless!

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Ummmmm, ladies, how about just washing out that filter instead of shaking all the dust around outside?

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

OK, here is what my original central vac guy told me about bags/no bags, and I still believe it: With a bag, the suction decreases as the bag fills up, because the suction/wind is having to pass through not only a filter (the bag) but all the dirt. Without a bag, the dirt is below where the cyclone action is, in the canister, so the suction doesn't diminish.

We have a central vac with a gigantic metal canister (we got the heavy duty commercial one) and it is big and heavy to empty, so of course I have my husband do it! :-)
Seriously, even with our big canister, you just take a huge black garbage bag, go outside, set the canister down, put the bag over it so it covers it, then kind of hold it around the edges, and dump upside down. Then walk briskly away and don't come back for a few seconds, till the dust has settled. Then very gently close the top.

Yes it's more trouble, but we have really good suction.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I buy packages of those vent filters (the long, white, foam thingies--Home Depot carries them next to the decorative vent covers) and cut them to fit my bagless. Works like a charm, and very cheap!

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I have a Eureka bagless and have no problem at all cleaning my filter. I just go outside, and make sure the wind is blowing away from my face and start whacking the filter on the side of the house, sidewalk, tree........dh's head....... whatever is there. LOL I've had mine for 4 years and haven't had to replace anything except the belt once or twice. I love my bagless.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I did get a Dyson and it's everything they say it is. You do have to clean the canister but it is very easy to clean. The filter is supposed to be rinsed every 3 months but I forgot for a year. Still it cleaned up easy.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

As a pet owner (3 cats and 2 dogs) I can say that owning a bagless is NOT practical. I have a small bagless that I use in the basement and after about 10 minutes, it's clogged and I have to vacume the filter with my other vacume cleaner just to be able to use it again. I got rid of the piece of junk Kenmore upright that I had - filters were SOOOO expensive, and with my allergies, just didn't do justice.

Went back to using a Hoover windtunnel upright with a BAG (I LOVE THE BAGS). I'll never go back. BTW - I love Hoover too.

If they stop manufacturing the bags, I will give up vacuming altogether.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Dyson fan here. The only bad thing is my new house has hardwood and tile so I don't get to use it as much as I used to. I purchased the DC 17 the day it was available at Best Buy. LOVE THAT VAC

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Another Dyson owner who would never ever ever go back to using any other brand. It's on a whole other level, as far as I'm concerned, and well worth the price, even for poor little old me.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I didn't realize my thread was still going...looks like unless you are willing to take out a second mortgage and buy a Dyson that bagless aren't worth a flip! Why should a good vacuum cleaner cost you an arm, leg and first born?

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Dysons are cheap bagless vacuums; Rainbows are expensive bagless vacuums. I wouldn't go with any other vacuum besides these two.

Other bagless vacuums I've had slight experience with:

- Kenmore progressive bagless - #2 on the CR list and at $300 it's cheaper than both of the kings of bagless, but after a few years of ownership and replacing that stupid tower filter you probably would have bought two Rainbows. And what happens with the beltless direct drive system fails...yeah

- Hoover Windtunnel 2 - When people asked if someone coul biuld a vacuum that was uglier than a Dyson the execs at Hoover must have been listening in and saw the opportunity to rise to the occasion with the Windtunnel 2. The niffty thing about this vacuum is that it's really easy to take the dust cup off. All you have to do is move the vacuum when it's standing straight up and before you know it the dust cup is lying on the floor.

- Bissel Healthy Home - It looks sort of like a Dyson but for less money. So what do you get for roughly 130 bucks less? A lot less power and a hose that won't stay wraped up on the machine. The reason this vacuum won't exhaust harmful particles into your home is because it can't pick any up in the first place.

- Vax - I once dumped the contents of a vax dust cup onto a carpet and attempted to pick it back up again. I'm still not sure how anyone got the dirt that was there in the vacuum in the first place. It does come with an amuzing flexible hose and a three foot hose...very convenient for those easy-to-reach places.

- Dirt Devil Twin Turbo - I still can't hear out of my right ear because of this machine. The good news is that this machine never gets dirty inside; the bad news is this is true because it won't pick anything up.

- Hoover Empower - It has an overboost switch! You can also fold the handle down for storage! Oh and it costs less than 100 bucks! And if you are buying it to clean anything but a 10 x 10 dorm room you'll need a new one in six months!

As for canisters...

- Kenmore Bagless Canister - The motor is placed awkwardly making it feel really heavy. It takes two hands to empty the dust cup making it virtually impossible to do and not make a mess.

- Electrolux Twin Clean - I actually like this vacuum, but the powerhead will make your ears bleed and the dust cup empties from the top...messy...

Oh btw...

- Dyson DC21 - A canister vacuum from Dyson! Short cord, none of the additional accessories Dyson makes will fit on it, and you have take the dust cup apart to empty it...boooo! Not to mention that any attatchments you put on it have to stick out about two feet because you can only collapse and not remove the wand. Oh and the DC21 doesn't get a brushless motor like the DC12 allegedly has...WTF Dyson? WTF?

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I have been so frustrated with vacuum cleaners over the years ... wasted a lot of money on some of the brands mentioned above. How about the weight of some brands like the Hoover Windtunnel - my old one weighed a ton. Lasted less than 5 years and it wasn't cheap, either.

Now have a "Dyson Animal Vac" and I absolutely love it. I have 4 dogs and need a lot of vacuuming power. It cost maybe a third more than that Hoover which never worked as good as my Dyson. My Dyson empties right over the garbage can outside and is easy to clean. Can you tell I love it???

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I stand by Hoover products.

Dysons are cheap? LOL!!! Compared to what? Bosch appliances? I just can't justify spending any more than $300 for a vacuum cleaner - and that's pushing it - especially with most manufacturer warranties that are only one year. The only thing worse in price is the Kirby.

I've been frustrated with vacuum cleaners too, and I think they all have their good and bad points. I don't care if a vacuum cleaner is ugly. It's picking up dirt, what do I care what it looks like? I'm not displaying it for my guests when they come to visit. My, what a beautiful vacuum cleaner you have....Nancy, have you seen the beautiful vacuum cleaner Jane has? I'll just have to get me one of those....I have the perfect spot in my living room to put it on display. It will be such a conversation piece. I will be the envy of all my friends... LOL

Seriously, I've looked at the Dyson's in the store, and it took me a good five minutes just to figure out how to turn the darn thing on. There are so many gadgets and nooks and crannies - it looks so complicated I thought I'd never want to use it. It didn't seem easy to maneuver either. I can't rate its performance since I've never actually used it, but I'd never pay the price tag either.

The manufacturers need to get smart and custom design vacuum cleaners based on each individual consumer's needs. We can all buy cars with options, so why not customize a vacuum cleaner? Do I want a long hose or a short one? Do I want a bag or bagless? Do I want suction so strong that it is pulling the threads of material from my carpeting (i.e. the Dirt Devil), or do I want something easier on my persian rugs?

And what genius invented the filters that are supposed to reduce allergens, and yet they don't address the fact that the only way to clean the filter is to physically remove it, but don't forget to put your breathing mask on beforehand because all of those wonderful micro-particles that you just sucked into the canister and kept from flying around your house with that expensive allergen reducing filter are now essentially being released back into the air again, and into your lungs, eyes, and further creating more dust in your home.

So now, I have to take the canister outside just to empty it in an effort to keep those dust particles from my home, and again, I can't forget to put my dust mask on first so the neighbors can see me walking around with my protective"breathing" gear and think that I'm close to living in a bubble. I can see the logic in breathing these now ever-so-concentrated allergens as I'm removing the contents of the canister and praying that the direction of the wind doesn't change while I'm shaking the filter against my tree for future re-use, which I have to do, because if I buy a new one it’s going to cost me another $60.00. This is so much better than removing and replacing a bag that cost me less than $2.00, with minimal dust particles being released in the process. So, not only have I just exposed myself to more allergens cleaning the thing than I would have if I had just used a bag, but I also spent about $60 more than I would have for a bag that can be disposed of without the mess. But, whatever, money is not an issue for me. I love giving my money away towards marketing ploys.

I don't think filters have any advantage over a bag, and manufacturers are making a killing on them! Unless you are a severe asthmatic who has someone else to change the filters out for you, I don't see the point. When I had a filter, I had to use my non-filter vacuum to clean out the filter on the other one every time I sucked up pet hair. Can you say not practical????

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Average cost Dyson c. 500 dollars

Average cost Rainbow c. 2600 dollars

Dysons are cheap bagless vacuums ;)

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

The best vacuum(I ever owned) as far as pulling up the dirt and dog hair out of the carpet was a plain ol' Dirt Devil the old red one with a bag. I had a very large dog that shed horrible like a German Shepherd (undercoated)I filled a bag up like after 4 vacuumings...I loved it but I finally wore it out after about 5 years. I think it cost me about $60. Then I bought a bagless...huge mistake! And yes, $500 is a lot of money for a Dyson to ME! Ya know, they look so cheapy too?

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Reviving this to note that I truly love my Rainbow. Yes, it was very expensive but w/ 2 shedding dogs, a husband that loves all the windows open and a hair-shedding wife (myself). It really does clean well, especially on the pet hair (mine as well).

I always feel a sense of cleaning satisfaction dumping out all the filthy water.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I was just vacuuming today and was thinking about this thread again. I was thinking to myself how several years ago my Mom was needing a new vacuum cleaner because she wanted the ease of an upright after using a canister vac. for years and years. She didn't want to have to buy bags but I was telling her that I had JUST BOUGHT a bagless upright and I hated it so I told her to get a bagged one instead of the bagless because they are a pain to clean all the filters. So what does she do..of course she has to first ask my opinion but goes and does the opposite of what I told her. So then I talk to her a couple weeks later and ask "so how do you like your new bagless vac." She says "OH I hate it....when I cleaned the filters and cup I started sneezing my head off so I gave it to Colette(my sister)" HA! "I told ya so!!!!!!!!! HAHAHA!!!!!"

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Personally, I hate them all. :)

I have lots of wood and tile in my home and my vacuum just spits things to the side. What brand do you all like on your bare floors?

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

mammie, it sounds like you are using an upright to vacuum all of your hard surfaces. The better vacuum cleaner to use would be a suction-only canister. You will be able to move the floor brush freely around the house. The brush can move inbetween furniture and under much easier than an upright can. Also, you will not have the "spitting" of dirt like an upright.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Well its not me! I use a Rainbow, it is the best vacuum ever. No bags, no filters, just water. The bags and filters harbour dust which grows bacteria and just spews it all back out into the air when you use it. Plus the bags and filters clog up and restrict any airflow, which is what allows you to pick up the dirt and dust in the first place. They are ineffective and bad for your health. Go to the Health Canada website and read what they have to say about the traditional vacuum cleaner. With the Rainbow you simply empty the water into the toilet when you are finsihed. Not only that, it is aslso a certified air purifier! You can put scents and medicines in it, it runs a 24-7 making our air pure and smell great too. I even use it as an air conditioner. Just add a couple of trays of ice, and it blows out cold air for over 2 hours. It has numerous attatchments so it can clean any surface or fabric too. It sucks up water and even has an attachment to clean your drain. It has a bag to put your cushions in and "air tight" cleans them as well. THe list is endless. Why anyone out there is still using a traditional Vacuum cleaner is beyond me.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I love my bagless I do not have any problems with dust flying. Te canister empties from the bottom. Before I open I tap the canister to make all the dust settle, then I open the door the dust falls in trash. I hole it right over the the trash not up in the air. It is a dirt devil d1.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

At one time I owned two electrolux canisters. the first was a hand me down from my first MIL. It had a cloth bag you could empty and replace. I liked it so much I bought a brand new Electrolux for about $700. It had a disposable paper bag but I found I could use the cloth bag from the first. It lasted through two dogs. Then the hose jammed. I had it serviced twice but it kept on clogging. I threw it away. Bought a Hoover bagless. My second MIL loved hers. It didn't suck.Dirt went in and shot out from the bottom. No idea why, as my hairy dog #2 was now gone. Then I bought a Bissel that didn't work any better. I've heard Electrolux has changed ,it's now called "Aerus". I'm going to try to find a decent used Electrolux. Hope it comes with a warranty/guarantee.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Why on earth would you throw away a good Electrolux because the hose was clogged... You could have replaced the hose with a new one and still had a great vacuum.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I am sorry but anyone who would pay $2,400 for a vacuum needs to get a life.

I got a "teaser" for a subscription for Consumer Reports the other day. On the cover it said guess which vacuum is the worse for picking up pet hair? Inside it said the Dyson was the worse (I have no idea what model). It gave thumbs up to some Eureka $150 vacuum.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Contrary to popular belief Consumer Reports is not THE FOREMOST AUTHORITY on Vacuums. It is a good STARTING POINT to research a vacuum. They only do a small selection of vacs, they sometimes compare newer models with older models, they recommend a machine by affordability over a better, more expensive machine, and they are not a good source for reliability and repair. For instance the Kenmore Canisters they have previously, recommended come in droves to be repaired in our shop. The new CR Edition recommends the Electrolux(Really a Eureka) canister. I can tell you they are burning out hose and wand contacts and the replacement is more than a third of the purchase price. But you wouldn't know that by reading a chart. It seems like the Dyson moved up in ratings this year but CR did not review a machine this year that was rated higher than the Dyson last year. Etc.

In addition to CR, calling a reputable vacuum store or two should also be on your vacuum research list. Most posters seem to distrust dealers but I and many others in the business pride ourselves on trying to find the right vacuum for the right customer. There is no secret conspiracy to rip you off. LOL. If a dealer doesn't recommend the vacuum you like, there probably is some reason he has that opinion, usually his experience with that brand not that he can't make any money on it or can't sell you bags, besides you can go somewhere else if you disagree. The very worst place to buy a vac is on the internet or lumber store unless you only want a cheap vacuum. Believe it or not, on a quality vacuum, go to a dealer that is an authorized repair facility, if purchased in store, they can sell you a vac lower than the internet price! They just cannot advertise it.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Oh My!! I don't put much stock in consumer reports any more. I have been married 19 years and have gone through three highly rate vaccuum cleaners in that time. None was really great.

I received my new Dyson Animal yesterday, which I was able to purchase with my Visa rewards points, luckily! It is completely in a different league from other bagged/bagless vacuums. (Fortunately the Rainbow vaccumm is completely out of the question for me, so I have no way to compare it! Although it sounds amazing.)

After vacuuming my bedroom carpet, you would have thought that I had never vaccuumed it before. I have a dog and a cat and it picks up the hair beautifully. Most of my house is hardwood and it was a pleasure to use on the hard floors as well and without fear of damaging the floor that I had with my previous upright.

I completely chose to ignore all negative reports on the Dyson and take a chance on it simply because nothing else worked well! I am thrilled with it. What a beautiful piece of engineering! (and a five year warranty)

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

My favorite vacuum for the carpets is the big roll around shop vac with the filter removed and a gallon or so of water in it to stop any dust. It picks up anything and everything. Even works as a leaf blower on the patio.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Bagless vacuums + allergy sufferers = BAD, BAD, BAD!!!!

Every allergy site that talks about vacuuming will tell you so.

Florabelle1

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Nothing wrong with going to a reputable vacuum store that sells a few different brands and unlike buying at most stores you can actually try them out. You can't do that at WalMart etc. It's like buying a pig in a poke there.

Rainbows aren't a bad vacuum but they're not the greatest either. They're well built but too expensive for most peoples budget. Plus you have to dispose of all that dirty water riddled with debris down the toilet each and every use and then wash out the container and let it completely dry before you can put it back together and store it away.
They don't capture all the dust either that's why they've had to resort to adding a HEPA filter on the latest models exhaust because believe it or not some types of dust just repel water and continue to blow around and out the exhaust

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

We bought a Dyson when we bought our house ¡V before we bought any of the things that most people buy, like a couch, or a TV ¡V I think we might have bought it before we bought the coffee maker, actually.

Four years and four cats later, sometimes you have to re-seat the collection bin, and I¡¦m occasionally frustrated with the hose/wand that you can¡¦t access as easily as I¡¦d like, or without dumping that lovely cord that reaches from one end of my house to the other¡K

But I¡¦m happy with it ¡V and my sinuses are thrilled ƒº

By the way ¡V the problem with dust ¡¥bouncing¡¦ off the water in a Rainbow can be addressed by changing the surface tension ¡V half an ounce of alcohol (rubbing, or cheap vodka) or two drops (and I mean two drops) of dish soap seemed to work pretty well.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I agree with the Consumer Reports comments. I've listened to them on the last three vacuums I bought and they are crap. I also hesitated with the price of the Dyson, but after spending about $250-$275 and being unhappy within a year I should have just bit the bullet in the first place. This time I did, getting the All Floors model for $343. I absolutely love it. I will never buy another kind.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I have a Miele and wouldn't trade it. I can shut the beater bar off and use it on hard surfaces, lower the suction and vacuum throw rugs (wonderful). My son and I are the king and queen of allergies. I could never use a bagless. My friend has one and I was helping her clean and oh my, when you empty those things...no way.

My other vac was an air way. It was soooo darn heavy. I hated dragging that vac from the basement to the main level to the second level. It was a workout.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I had a Eureka bagless that I hated. It had a cone shaped filter that was hard to find at popular stores. I needed to empty the vacuum outdoors as all the dust I just took out of the house was flying all around when I tried to empty it in a garbage bag. The cone shaped filter was washable but I had to wait for it to throughly dry before vacuuming again. Kind of annoying if you have an accidental spill!

Bags are good. Bought a Bissell at WalMart that takes bags and I am so much happier.

I thought I was so old fashioned for not liking the new bagless vacs.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I love my Miele, too! For all the reasons Debbie 2008 gave. The thing has amazing suction, tracks well and all the tools fit neatly on board, and the bag catches all the dust. I have a son with asthma and it's made a real difference. I just want to toss the dirt and be done with it. Yes, 10 years ago the thing cost us about $900, but it still works like the day we bought it. I don't see having to replace it anytime soon, either, which is good because I couldn't afford another one now!

LOL, I'm raving about a vacuum cleaner. Speaking of needing to get a life....

RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Hello Everyone
I'm new here but couldn't resist responding to this. I have a Dyson and have had a Beam central vac and numerous cannister vacs including a Rainbow. We have a lot of laminate flooring in our home and I bought the dyson model that will do all types of flooring and upholstery. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Our central vac cost about the same as this and for myself, the Dyson is worth every penny! thanks for letting me put my 2 cents worth in.

 o
RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

Does anyone have a Riccar? I got one about 3 years ago and love it. It does have a bag but the suction power is great! It also works well on hardwood floors. I think they run about the same price as the dyson.

Lori

RE: Vacuums-Is it just me?

I have a Tri-Star and love it. It is not a bag-less but can be used without paper filters. This thing is built like a tank. Unfortunately it is a canister. I love the mini power head for doing furniture.
