Piece for Potter's Wheel

Hi,

I'm new around here. I have a potter's wheel that my husband made for me. However, a while ago, I blew the pedal. (I think I got the motor too hot and blew the wiring.) Anyway, we're looking for a replacement, but I'm having trouble finding something that will give multiple speeds, as needed. Most we can find are on/off type of set-ups without variable speed. Does anyone know of a good source for random parts like this? Or does anyone have experience building their own wheel?
