painting a cement heron for outside

| Hello there, I have not visited this site before and I hope someone has an answer for me. I did a search and there wasn't a question like this before. I just painted a large cement blue heron to put by my water garden and I am wondering if I have to put an over coat of some type to protect the paint. I was told to use a latex house paint on it but I didn't think to ask about a finish protection, like a varnish or something. I have done ceramics before and I know when you do something for outside you have to use a protective coat. Any help will be very appreciated. Linda |

| I recently painted an outdoor statue with a latex outdoor house paint. It looks fine. I did however, use a primer on it first. I might use some sealer on it, but it is about 5 years old and seems to be wearing ok. SO I think the sealer is not really necessary. But if you want to use it, just make sure it is safe to use over the paint. |
