The cord is probably at the base of the bannister on the wall near it. Tho you can buy the light strands that run on batteries (and with timers if you want). I got some to put on wreath a few years ago, think from QVC. Its easy to hide in the greenery too.

Love having bannisters too. I try to change it up some how every year. I've used the battery lights at some houses where I could run an extension cord. Here I can run a cord into my daughter's room and it's not in the way of anyone walking.

My one lament is that real garland dries out sooooo fast. I'd much prefer to use real but have to rely on fake. I'm very picky about the fake garland I buy. Love the longer needle ones and like the ones that use several varieties of fake greens. Then I usually pimp it out :) But this year I stayed simple.

new home before Christmas and I will get the
chance to try decorating a bannister! She's
still trying to get them to lower the price more
so not sure it's going to happen. They've
already come down over 150,000.

absolutely beautiful - I would love to decorate a banister also but don't want a 2 story house - lived in one for 33 years - time for one floor living for me. I also had wanted a mantel to decorate forever and finally got one last year when hubby surprised me with one he built. I will be content with that .....
