Jumping on Luv's Acorn Train

| This is a setting I did a few days ago when we had a couple of friends over for dinner. I was trying to go for a sort of rustic elegance look, but I'm not sure how well I achieved it. LOL!
I had bought some new napkins the other week and found the arrangement in the urn with it's browns and whites. It has dried pods, cattails, dried flowers, pheasant feathers, and curly twigs. For some "fluff" , I sent my husband on a mission in the woods to find leaves and acorns. Luvs, did you have any clue what you were starting??? LOL!
The white plates have a gold band around the rim and were a birthday present from my aunt. Since I didn't have any brown dishes, I used vintage amber glass salad plates with them. The name tags are tied on gold-leafed apples with rafia.
Although it isn't old, I found the squirrel figurine in an antique shop the other day. My daughters named her Sandy Cheeks and she presided over the table. I also added in some bronze colored leaf ornaments. I like how they sparkle in the candlelight.
By the time I got the table set and ready to take photos, these ferny leaves were all curling up. I guess the deer had munched all the bigger acorns...all I could find were small ones to use.

| That's very pretty, and I love what I can see of your room. The amber plates really caught my eye. At first glance I thought they were an Aztec sun pattern. I like them! And it's great that your husband went and "found you things". :) |

| You definitely achieved your rustic elegant look. Your table is beautiful, and I love the gorgeous centerpiece. Mr. Squirrel is so cute! |

| Dream, that's my favorite kind of table and floral arrangement...a woodland theme. Yours turned out beautiful. The plates and gold apples definitely added the elegance you were going for too. Nice job! Poor Luvs, she'll be blamed for every acorn that appears in all our decor from now on. LOL. At least she isn't guilty of the pheasant fetish too. hugs, Karen |

| Dream, I see a really pretty nice sized acorn dish on there too--very pretty. How great for you that you can just send your DH off into the woods for acorns and oak leaves to use. Love your little squirrel too. I think you got the rustic elegance just right. Luvs |

| Your table is beautiful and I think you hit the elegant more than the rustic.LOL I just love looking at all the beautiful tables. Your lucky to be able to send DH outside and pick acorns. I have two trees and they grow so slow don't know if I'll see any acorns in my day. Great job finding the squirrel figurine, it's perfect. Luvs, will have to get broader shoulders if this keeps up alright.haha She's such a great person that I'm sure she's loving every picture and story that comes along. Karen, we can't let up though or she would think something was wrong.haha Punk |

Your table is beautiful. I love how your chargers set off your plates. The amber plates are lovely and a nice touch of color for your theme. That squirrel was a great find..it was waiting to be discovered!! Watch out for 'fresh' acorns. I had trouble once with bringing some in and putting them in a bowl. After a few days, I saw tiny worms coming from them! ugggg jane |

| Jane, you can bake the acorns same as pinecones, to get rid of pests on them. I checked on google out of curiosity. I got a giggle just thinking what would happen if I sent my DH off in the woods to bring me stuff. LOL. Good thing for him no woods here to try it! Heaven knows what he'd bring back but I'm sure it would be 'interesting'. hugs, Karen |

| Jane, thanks for the heads up. I can just see you watching the worms crawling out on one of your beautiful tables. Is this how you learned to distress furniture??? Karen, I would never send my DH into the woods for something for me. He would bring back a buck or a load of wood (maybe both) besides what I sent him for. Oh and one has to visit with the neighbors in case theres some new news. I would be patiently waiting his return thinking, Snow White is not missing and no I am not the wicked Queen, just get my stuff here NOW!!! I better get to bed and quite playing here it's 12:15. | Gorgeous table as always, the browns & gold together are very elegant. I want to steal your candle hurricanes!!! |

| You nailed it Dream! It is beautiful. The amber and gold ( those apples are sooo neat!) with the 'woodsy' parts makes it perfect! How sweet of your DH to go 'hunt & gather' for you!! Make sure you tell him we think he is GRRREAT!! I LOVE the centerpiece arrangement. I am on the hunt for pheasant feathers with no luck so far. I've checked everywhere local and am extending my search further. I have several different things I've fallen in love with here that I MUST have. Now you've got me wanting a squirrel. Of course my DS would be trying to draw a Bull's Eye on it! He's like your DH, Punk! Karen, At what temperature and for how long do you bake the pinecones and acorns? I read on a blog here that you could freeze them for 72 hours and it would kill the little "woormies". I'm trying to decide which to do. I'm glad Luvs got us started with the acorns. What delightful tablescapes she is responsible for!! GOOD JOB, LUVS!! Betty |

Ha! Sandy Cheeks . . . some of you may not know that's a squirrel character on Spongebob (kid's animated show). She's the smart one on the show! The acorns really are a lovely addition to Fall tables. I love those bronze colored leaf ornaments, and your pheasant feathers look great, too. |

| Hey...I know that Squirrel on Spongebob...Didn't they just get married? LOL..DGSon was here and insisted to DH he watch it with him, that and many Spongebob 'Marathons....Love that show. lol Anyway, Karen..thanks for letting me know about baking the acorns in the oven... I should have known better, cause I have done that to Pinecones, and this also Opens Them up too. Which gives them a nice look. So, I will do that with the acorns...I haven't brought any in since then..lol Punk...yeah, I guess you can say my 'Destressing' skills came along after! LOL 'I don't do Crawly/Creepy very well. One day I'll tell you a story about the one in bed w/me...Oh and it wasn't DH @@ LOL jane |

hurrrummmmpf....if I sent my DH to the woods to get something for me, he would probably bring back a dead animal.... You did better at training your DH than I have!! I love your little Sandy Cheeks...I have her sister sitting on my hearth. Posie Kitty likes to rub against the squirrel to scratch her face. The poor squirrel is probably covered with cat hair! Beautiful table..you did good! Luvs is a great role model! |

| Ya'll are too funny! My DH used to hunt ALL the time, but then he just stopped. Now he won't even eat venison. Jane, I probably would have invented a new dance if I found worms coming out of the acorns! I did bake them before I used them, but I wasn't thinking worms...just other nasty little buggy things. Betty, if you have a Michaels or HL nearby, I bet they would have feathers. I also saw them one time on ebay when I was hunting some peacock feathers. |

| I love the juxtaposition of rustic and elegant and you've done it very well IMO. The bronze colored ornaments, the vintage amber glass salad plates, and the name tags tied on gold-leafed apples with raffia are really, really nice - love it all! |

| WOW, dream, your tablescape is gorgeous...I love the way you mixed nature & elegance! And the candlelight is just so warming...a great setting for friends! Today when grocery shopping, I bought a bag of "mixed nuts" (in the shells) & used a couple of the small "hazelnuts" in the cage with my turkey centerpc...they hopefully would not have any surprises crawl out of them! They look kind of "a-cornish!" TFS pics! Jeanne S. |
