Thanksgiving Dinner Table & New Finds (pics)

When I was at a new antique mall down in town last week looking (unsuccessfully) for a centerpiece turkey, I ran across this covered bowl for only $6. It's quite heavy and I'm keeping it on my buffet for now.
Here's a close-up of it:
And, yesterday I did a quick run-through at HL to buy one of their "natural" 6' slim trees with the natural bark trunk. They were on sale for 50% off and I needed one for our guest room. I'll show you that when I get it up after T-day. BUT, I also ran across this T-day pumpkin, which I thought would look good on my dining room bookcase. It was 66% off, so I got it for about $9. I really like the aged look of it a lot.
And here's a close-up. Isn't the detail great?
Several years ago, I made an Autumn centerpiece using three beaded pumpkins. They're styrofoam inside and so it was easy to cut the tops off with a big serrated bread knife. I used one of the tops in this Autumn basket that I've put on our family room credenza.
And . . . here's the table I'll be setting for our Thanksgiving dinner this year. I tried this out last night for dinner to see how I liked it. It'll just be the three of us for Tday this year, with DS in the Army and our bestfriends heading to TX to see their DD's new home. It will be different for us, but I'm looking forward to this one time change of pace for us:
And here's a close-up of my beaded pumpkin centerpiece. I used this last year, too, but I love it . . . what can I say?
I'll be using these serving pieces T-day, too, for my gravy and cranberry orange relish:
And this for our Caesar or Waldorf salad.
I found these glass plates and footed bowls at various times over the past year at GW. I'll use one of each for a small fresh veggie & Ranch dip appetizer plate
This was my table last year, for those of you who missed it then. I use these dishes a lot during Autumn and Winter and for many of my Asian meals, as well.
Thanks for looking!

Lynn..just stopped in during a 'Lunch Break'! So glad I did. You might not have found your Turkey, but you've collected some very Beautiful Thanksgiving items. That Pumpkin bowl is so rich looking. I like it's size and color. What a great find and price. I would have thought the HL pumpkin was from an Antique Shop as well... Another terrific find..it has an old look to it, and I like the details too. Great job on your basket. I like how you arranged it. The colors you've chosen, for your table, along with the beautiful pieces you've collected, fit perfectly with your home. I remember your centerpiece. I loved it then as I do now. Your table creates a 'warm glow' and I hope brings nice memories for all three of you. jane |

| I love your style! Everything has such an "old world" feeling and your new finds are great. I really like your beaded pumpkins and a great idea to cut the top off one so it fits in the basket - all of your runners are lovely. Love the square plates as well. TFS I've enjoyed looking. |

| Lynn, You really have some nice Thanksgiving pieces. I am particularly taken with the pumpkin with scene you got at Hobby Lobby. I have some of the same glass plates. Enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner. Look at it this way: you get to use your pine cone plates and napkin holders for a special meal. Thanks for sharing, Lee |

| I adore your Thanksgiving decor!!! You have collected a very creative array of items that will thrill your guests. I love to shop Thrift. This year I finally found my TURKEY centerpiece. I also have been on the hunt. It was $25. (which is high for a resale) but it is a soup tureen as well and had never been opened from it's oringinal wrapping. Now if I could just find some of those beautiful beaded pumpkins like you have!!!

Lynn, Love your pumpkin finds, the carved looking one is great with your runner and candlestick. You did a beautiful job on the beaded pumpkins and that runner is a perfect match too. I love your table and all your serving pieces, and with just the three of you you'll be able to use more dishes and decorations. My Thanksgiving table is always so crammed full, with food and people that it never turns out like I think it should. Yours is a sight for sore eyes. I like the square plate with the round charger too. Susiewantsroses, I love your turkey, you couldn't pass that up, even if it was a little pricey. Is it yellow or white? Pretty, no matter which. | Lynn, everything is BEAUTIFUL..BEAUTIFUL..BEAUTIFUL. I've scrolled up and looked several times. Your colors are great. And that pumpkin with turkey from HL...WOW. I just can't get over that piece. SusieRose, glad you jumped in with a picture. I know you like to decorate and have lovely things. Lets see more from you, Girl. Your turkey is wonderful and I'd have paid that for him too. We can't always find great bargains, but I figure if we pay a bit more at times, it all works out from all the ones we do find. You'll have this turkey for years and get a lot of enjoyment from him, so I'd say you did good bringing him home! hugs, Karen |

| Thanks for all your sweet comments! Jane, yes, I think it'll be a very special Thanksgiving for us. I think we'll have fires going in all our fireplaces to make it extra special. As for my HL pumpkin, can you tell from my photo that it's hollow and thet the design on the front is carved out? I really like my new find! Luckygal, it's hard to pull off holidays when your home is full of Old World things. I'm glad that you think it turned out well. Lee, you have those gold glass plates, too? How wonderful! Do you use them for anything or any time of the year in particular? Susie, what a wonderful turkey! I agree with Karen, it was a good buy, although I know we all LOVE those deep discounts best. Your turkey centerpiece/tureen was worth the extra! Judith, thank you for such a lovely compliment! Syble, thanks about my table. I do enjoy not having a crowded table and like being able to have some taller pieces in the mix. I'd better never buy a round table, though, as DH would go nuts with the center filled with decs ;^D Karen, yes, isn't that an unusual, pretty piece? I almost bought the only other one they had left, too, when I noticed that several small pieces of the design were broken off and rattling around inside it. Too bad, because I knew some of you might want the other one :~( Lynn |

| Lynn, Your centerpiece is even more beautiful than I remembered. I had asked in another post that you post a picture for the newbies who didn't get to see it last year. I love both of your new pumpkins. You have again set a beautiful Thanksgiving table. Susie, I'm impressed by your big old Bossy looking Turkey. He certainly will be the center of attention on your Thanksgiving table. I don't think that is a bad price at all for such a stately bird. Betty |

Lynne, I am completely taken with your bowl pumpkin. It's just my style. If you and I were in the store at the same time, you'd have a fight on your hands. Wow! Your new gravy and jelly serving pieces are great for Thanksgiving, but I was thinking that they just might blend in with your Franciscan dishes as well. Susie, you've got one great turkey centerpiece. Do you think you'll ever serve soup from it? That would be so cool. |

| Lynne, I agree with all of the above. Your new pumpkins are great, but the carved one is really special and I noticed it even has ACORNS on it! All the pieces for your table go together so well, just look at you all organized and doing a "trial run" before the big day! I'm so glad you gave us a close up of your centerpiece pumpkins--you really did a nice arrangement on each of them--and you found a way to use the tops as well! Great job! Susierose, that turkey tureen is gorgeous--no way you could pass that up! Luvs |

| Lynne, My plates are clear... I knew your bowls were gold, but thought they were on clear plates. What can I say, now I don't even know my colors. (-; You have probably done this, but with your square dishes, have you ever turned them one quarter-turn on the chargers? I did a table like that recently, and was really pleased with the appearance. The points at the top, bottom, and sides worked really well with square napkins used as placemats also on the diagonal. BTW, your dishes are very attractive. Bet they look wonderful in your house. | Lynne, beautiful! A few years ago it was just my dh, me and one of our kids for TG, when we usually have a large family gathering. I have to say, it was one of the funnest times we'd ever had! It was so laid back and the feel of TG was still there. Now, can you tell me where you get the energy to do all of that? lol |

Lynn, I thought I'd use this post to tell you something that I've often thought but never got around to saying. I think your home is so welcoming. Honestly, I am usually just focusing on your dishes or stemware or centerpieces when I'm adding to one of your posts. So, although I've often thought how wonderfully everything fits into the total decor of your home, I've just never gotten around to mentioning it. So, just for the record, everything, not just the table setting, is lovely. The long shot of your table is a great view and was the impetus for my comment. By the way, I just noticed that incredible carved edge on your table. Wonderful, really wonderful! |

Everything has such a warm, Fall feel to it. I LOVE your candelabras. I found similar pumpkins to yours with the turkey at Home Goods, but mine are not hollow and as intricate looking. Great find! Your tablesetting is gorgeous. The square plates are so pretty from last years table. Love the colors. I can see how you'd use them a lot in the Fall/Winter. |

| Lynn, I love seeing photos of your home. It always looks so warm and inviting. Your table setting is beautiful. I think my favorite part of it is the three pumpkins that you're using as the centerpiece. They're so pretty with the decorated tops. |

| I love all of it! Everything from the pumpkin to your candelabras! I remember those pretty sugared pumpkins from last year. You made those right? Hope there isn't too much of a void around the holidays with your DS away. |

Jeanne, you get the prize for most creative turkey centerpiece. That cage is to die for. Looks like your trying to fatten him up before Thanksgiving. Syble |

| Jeanne, glad to see you over here with us. I started out on GJ a few years ago and still go over to read but don't post much--small yard and not making much for it after the 13 totems and stacked pots! LOL I love your turkey, he looks allot like the one Tam and Jane have--and Syble's comment about the cage made me laugh! Luvs |

RE: Thanksgiving Dinner Table & New Finds (pics)
| | |
| Thank you for your kind words! I like you all very much and admire your own talents in decorating, so it means a lot to know that my own efforts look good to you. OA, I'm really incredibly touched that you think my home looks very welcoming. This has always been my main goal and I'm happy that it shows. A place that's a showplace but unwelcoming and not warm is a house, not a home in my mind. Here's a pic I took recently of my living room. It was heading towards dusk, so it's not the greatest picture. I'm also including one of the table's edge, too. Jeanne, it's so nice to "meet" you! I love your turkey in a cage. What a fun idea! It looks to be the same one that Jane has this year. Lynn

RE: Thanksgiving Dinner Table & New Finds (pics)

| Lynn, you definitely have a beautiful HOME. I'm with you on those that seem sterile and lack the warmth. No matter what kind of decor a person likes, surely there are ways to make it 'welcoming' instead of don't touch and be careful where you sit! Jeanne, how lucky you found one of those Turkeys. And the cage to put him in is totally delightful. Hope you stay with us thru the Holidays (at least) and keep posting pictures. hugs, Karen hugs, Karen |
RE: Thanksgiving Dinner Table & New Finds (pics)

Well...I'm blown away!! There's ANOTHER Turkey out their like Mine & Tam's. Instead of a Twin...it's Now a Triplet!! Jeanne..Your turkey is the exact one Tam & I have. I got mine last year on Ebay. He had the same finish as yours w/no sheen...so I gave him a Krylon satin spray.. It really brought out all the details on him. Just something for you to think about. jane |

Hi Jeanne! I love your beautiful Autumn dishes. It looks like your handpainted Mexican bird was made to go with your dishes. How pretty! Lynn |

| Jeanne, you have a great collection of those dishes, how many people do you feed at Thanksgiving? I sometimes see that pattern at the antique stores, is there a story behind them? Love your little angels too. Thanks for sharing your pretties with us. Luvs |
