Decorating an Apothecary Jar

Posted by oakleyok (My Page) on

Since I have a bigger kitchen now and plenty of counterspace, I finally ordered a large apothecary jar, and for Christmas I'll be putting in red, white and silver ornaments. My kitchen is red and white too.

Do any of you have pictures of your apothecary jars, even if they're not decorated for the holidays?

I'd love to see some that are decorated for the holidays also.

Can you tell I have no imagination? lol

Hi, Oakleyok! I don't have anything but this little mason jar Christmas dec. I bought it last year at HL, I think. I love that it has a light and cute little figurines in it. I think using the artificial snow is fun, too.

Lynn, love that little sweet jar!

I'm going to link to my blog with some glass fish floats I have in an apothecary jar.

Fall Apothecary Jar

I'm also linking to my fall apothecary jar. Normally, this one on my buffet has faux green apples in it. I think I'll try some Christmas ornaments this year, too, oakleyok.

I've also seen jars with faux artichokes, and I like that look too.

Thanks for the links, it will really help. Lynne, that's really cute, I need to get some fake snow too.

Tammy, I didn't know that was your blog, I've had it in my favorite places for a long time!

Okay, I am assuming I put the ornaments in the jar with tongs? :)

Oakleyok, awww, thanks for the sweet words.

I know what you mean about the tongs, especially if it's a jar you can't get your hand into. I know I had to be careful when I put the glass fish floats in my tall jar.

Not a great shot, but here's a spin on an apothecary jar that I made a few years back. The top part is an oil lamp and the bottom is a larger wide mouth apothecary jar. I covered the seam where they meet with rick rack. I haven't filled it with oil because I'd never burn it. I made quite a few for family and friends. You can add any type of decoration that suits your fancy and you don't have to be a craft wizard to make it, either ;o)

I'm enjoying everyone's pics and getting lots of inspiration. I don't do anything very fancy altho will have to add ribbons to mine as it looks great.

Thanks for adding that link Kath, I'm never sure if anyone looks at my site. :-)

Here's my Christmas mantel from last year with a couple of apothecary jars and a glass urn with Christmas deco's in.

Same apothecaries on sideboard early spring arrangement. I use these all the time for different things such as vintage jewelry, handmade soaps, bath bombs, bath salts, my old button collection.

Same apothecaries again on coffee table. My stuff gets moved around often!

My little cloche at Christmas last year. I decorated the entire house for company in only a few days so some vignettes were very quick!

I have a few covered glass pedestal cake plates and occasionally use them the same as cloches. This one has some old silver flatware under it. Red napkin for Valentines' Day.

I also have a couple of glass cheese domes I use as cloches also but don't have pics.

Mrs. Marv, love your holiday lamp, that turned out really cute! That's a cute little button leg santa too! Did you make him as well?

Luckygal, your jars and vignettes with them all look really nice. I love the way you display three of them together in a grouping. That's a really pretty tray you have as well.

Everyone has such pretty decorations. MrsMarv, you have a great view from your table.

I can't show my apothecary jars, but will tell what is in them. The largest is usually filled with faux fruit of the season. Right now it has apples, limes, oranges and lemons.
Usually at Christmas it is filled with black, red and silver ornaments and beads, and sits on the kitchen table.

The middle size is filled with rose petals from flowers I've received the last couple of years. It sits in my bedroom. Usually I put the "from" card in there, too.

Right now the other one is empty.

There are some pretty clever apothecary jars here. I love these Add-Your-Pics/Ideas-To-The-List Posts. So many inspirational ideas. Keep 'em coming.

Mrsmarv, thanks for showing your cute little rooster lamp! I've met several others online who have the same one also. I got mine at a YS for about $7. (can't say exactly as I bot a lot of her stuff and it was all a bargain).

Have to tell you I love your plates! I've only written on plates for the garden but I keep seeing such nice ones for indoors I feel a project coming on!

Great jar shots everyone, very inspiring.
Oakleyok, the red, white and silver ornaments will be wonderful in your jar, I love that color theme.

This is an old shot of mine, it just has some white rose flower heads plopped in it, with a twist of silk ivy at the top. I use the jars alot in my decor, I have other shots of the jars too, but I think most everyone here has already seen them too.

Keep the pictures coming!

Here's my first Christmas jar. I could kick myself for not getting the larger one but I thought it would be too big for this corner. I need to search around for THE perfect jar to go here, but this one will do for now.

Oakley, I like that! I'm going to try the Christmas ornaments in mine this year for the first time. And I love the red berries too!

 o
RE: Decorating an Apothecary Jar

Oakley, that came out great, and just perfect that you added the red berries to pull out the red in your tile.
