Betty - About the Pumpkin Bowls...

| Betty I wrote to you on the 'Turkey Plates' thread, and I don't know if you saw it.... anyway,
I'm going to be passing the CTS this weekend, and wanted to know if you'd like the white pumpkin bowls? I'm not sure if they still have them, as they go pretty quickly.
If they do, how many, and what size? I'll pick them up for you. (my gift to you). The small size holds 1 1/2 cups and the larger size holds 2 Cups. I've posted pics below to see.
Also, I was in Marshall's today, and they had your Turkey Plates. They are even more pretty in person. They also had another design, which I liked too, but DH was there, and he was rushing me along. :(
Also, I posted pics of my 'Mean Pheasant Bird' below so you can really get a close up look of him. Last yr my youngest Gson who was 4 at the time, was not too thrilled with him sitting on the front hall table, and kept saying he looks real! I know he was wondering if he would move..
This year, I put him up high on the mantel, among the leaves. It kind of hides him some...hehehe
[
So, let me know, on the pumpkin bowls. I'm hoping they still have them. Keep your fingers crossed!

Jane, glad you posted the photo of the Pheasant. He's wonderful. Maybe he's not mean, just real serious about avoiding hunters. LOL. Try that one on your grandson. Sounds like I should go see what all the Marshall's here has. I've still got a Xmas gift certificate for there in my purse. LOL. Its a bit of drive for my bad leg, so that's why I haven't gone. Keep procrastinating. This is a good time of year to go tho. Those pumpkin bowls are lovely by the way. hugs, Karen |

| Karen... I like your thinking on the Pheasant..'He's avoiding hunters'! lol In fact, my Gkids know about hunters here. The land adjacent to my property, is owned by a family, who Only use it to use ATVs and Hunt on it during the Season. We often see them, around the holidays, pulling up with their 'Gear' and go into the woods. So, Gndson should understand that... I'll let you know how he 'accepts that one' !! LOL As far as your gift certificate.. you shouldn't let that go by. They put out some really nice Christmas things too. I'm sorry and understand you're having to deal with leg pain and it being hard to make the trip. I used to get terrible 'flair ups' with my Lupus, and driving long distances was very unconfortable. Maybe you could make plans with a friend or a family member to go along with you and they do the driving. You know the saying, 'Where there's a will...There's a way' ! Don't let that certificate go unused, or get lost! Good luck. jane |

| OMG! Jane! I just saw this post! I would LOVE 4 of the larger ones, but if they only have the smaller ones that is fine also. Or 2 of each if that is all they have left. Oh, I hope it's not too late!! What a thrill!! Bless you my Child!! I'M SO EXCITED!!! I feel like a kid at Christmas! Betty |

Jane, I got so excited I forgot to say: THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! You are too sweet for words. What a BIG, KIND heart you have. Betty |

Betty...even though I didn't hear from you when I went yesterday.... I GOT YOU 4 OF THE BIG BOWLS ..YIPPEE!!!!! I thought 'What Would Betty Want'. I'm so glad I decided on the larger ones and 4!! I figured that would be the best choice... I'm soooo happy I found them. As it was the amount was limited, and while I was looking at something else, I saw a women ready to 'pounce' on them in MY wagon!! She must have felt my eyes 'boring' into her back, cause she turned to look at me and said 'Oh is this your wagon?' Then asked me where I got them from..I just knew she would have taken them if I didn't see her. Now, you have to email me and give me your address.. plainjane425@aol.com Loves & Hugs, Jane |

| Jane, You'd better be careful! You could become a shopping service at all those great Eastern stores we don't have here in the West! So jealous of the wonderful things you guys get at Hobby Lobby, and Cracker Barrel, and CTS... - Magpie |
RE: Betty - About the Pumpkin Bowls...

kathleen...yes they did have the pinecone rings. I picked up 6 for Lynne. If I knew, I would have done the same for you. I was mistaken on the price...(another brain fog) they were $l each, not $.50. However, that is still a great price. Magpie..that would be Wonderful...being a 'Personal Shopper'. This way I can shop for others, and 'Get It Out of My System' !! lol.. The only prob...I can't keep it! :( I wish I had a Hobby Lobby here. I'm always reading about great buys from them. I miss Cracker Barrel tho, none here. Maybe that's a good thing, cause with all the other places to shop here, I'd definitely be broke. jane |

RE: Betty - About the Pumpkin Bowls...

hi jae51...Welcome. CTS - stands for Christmas Tree Shops....and they don't just carry Christmas items!! Several of us on this site, are faithful shoppers with them. They have everything that your little heart desires and more..from Housewares to Giftware to Toys..Stationary..and all kinds of Seasonal Decorations. They were a family run store, that originated from Cape Cod, Ma. back in the 70's. Slowly they started adding stores all over the Cape, one by one...and then started branching out to other areas in New England, (CT) first. A few years ago, BB&BY bought them out, and now, they are branching out all over. Their inventory has changed some.. since the original buyer (family member) stayed on for a short while and has now gone. They carry great items and their prices are fabulous. Their motto is 'Don't You Just Love A Bargain' ! Of course, who doesn't. I don't own stock in the company..lol...just a loyal customer from when they started.. We always vacation in Cape Cod each year. (I hit every one of them)! Hope that answers your ques...aren't you glad you asked ?? lol Again, Welcome...hope you join our group...we'd love hearing from you. We're just a bunch of lovely 'Dish-A-Holics', who love sharing holiday ideas and pictures of our Tablescapes and Decorating. jane |
RE: Betty - About the Pumpkin Bowls...

| Hi Jae51, We don't have them here in Va either and I have been whining for some of those BEAUTIFUL pumpkin soup bowls since last year when the lucky ones started posting pictures of them used in their tablescapes. Well, Bless her heart, Sweet Jane went out and bought 4 as a gift to me. Everyone at my house is sick of hearing about "Saint Jane" and the soup bowls! LOL Oh well, they'll just have to get over it. They will see what I mean when I serve them soup in those beauties. I can hear my 15 year old DS teasing me now saying, "These things are ugly." just to watch me draw my hand back at him. He loves to tease me. Please feel free to hop right on in here with us. This is a special family here. They stick with you through good and bad times AND pumpkin soup bowls! LOL We love pictures, so be sure to show us your decorations, tablescapes, or just great deals you found at the Goodwill, thrift stores, etc. I would love to see Texas before I get too old to travel. And I'm already thinking of how I can save enough pennies to get to all of the CTSs in Cape Cod. Never been there either. Betty |
RE: Betty - About the Pumpkin Bowls...

| Betty...that's One Area I can't help you with... 'A Trip To Cape Cod' !! LOLOL However, your 'little babies' are on their way, and hopefully will be in your hot little hands in about two days! Be careful when you open the package to take them out. The tops (stems) are fragile. I had to sift through several at the store to find ones in perfect condition. 'Saint Jane' ... I'm Loving It !! jane |

Y'all are too fun!!! Hi Jae51...thank heavens, I have another Texan to help me out here!!! Girls, we have Hobby Lobby, so if you need something let me know...I'll get it in the mail pronto! Hugs to all of you! J |

| Thanks for the responses. I am just now getting back on line to peruse the forum. I found some clear pumpkin jars at WalMart, but weren't nearly as pretty. I am now in Christmas mode. :-) There's a huge Christmas store in a town nearby (Arlington) that I plan to visit soon. After viewing all the gorgeous pictures of table settings on this forum, I want to see about getting some new dishes to decorate my table on the sun porch. I like the idea of thrift shops...may have to find one. I've been collecting 'stuff' for a long time and this holiday season I plan to pull it out and put all around my house. This year I am celebrating the upcoming births of my first grand children. My daughter and son's wife are both expecting early next year so this holiday season I'm going all out. We have lots to celebrate. It's time to unpack the boxes, clear the dust bunnies and enjoy my collection. After all, that's what it's all about, right? :-) I will definitely post pictures when I get it all together. Judy |

Glad to see you back Judy.. Congratulations on the up and coming 'Events'. How Exciting for you. All of us here would love for you to share pictures of your pretties. Sounds like you've got quite a bit too. Looking forward to seeing your post. jane |

| OH Judy, GRANDCHILDREN!!!!!! OK, listen carefully from one who speaks from experience... Go out and buy yourself everything you even think you may want NOW. Because, when those Darling gifts from Heaven look up at you with those Precious little eyes and say those words, "Nanny, will you please buy it for me?" you no longer will have any $$s for dishes!! My oldest DGS gave his Christmas wish list... TO ME!!! What's up with that?!? Did he forget he had a Mama and Daddy? LOL Grandchildren are the best "Dishes" of all!! Betty |

| You guys are funny! I would love to go shopping as I am very excited about becoming a grandma. But, just this last week, my husband lost his job, so, EVERYTHING is on hold now. And, here it is the upcoming Christmas season.... ho hum.... heavy sigh....we will survive. I guess I'll be making our Christmas gifts this year. I do know one thing I'm going to buy is a picture of my daughter sitting on Santa's lap. I thought that would be a cute pic ... a mommy to be .... One day she can show her baby can look back and both laugh. :-) |

| Oh Judy, I'm sorry to hear about your DH's job loss. That is happening everywhere. My husband was sharing with me last night that he is getting concerned about his job also. He is head of maintenance at Englander Stoveworks. They are down to a skeleton crew and the orders are not coming in. They already have thousands of stoves built in preparation for the fall orders that didn't happen. I guess this means I need to stay away from TJ MAXX. That place is a magnet to my money!! I walk in and my debit card starts dancing because it knows it's coming out!! Betty |

Judy and Betty... I know how that goes and I'm sorry that you are both in a bad position there. Last year they terminated 80% of our work force. It's still day to day for the rest of us. That is a heavy cloud over anyones head! I will be thinking about both of you. J |
RE: Betty - About the Pumpkin Bowls...

| I LOVE these bowls! I've admired them here on the forum many times and wondered where they came from.....sorry that I don't have one of those stores anywhere near me or even know anyone who does live hear one....guess I'll just have to keep coveting them :) Donna in Fla |

| Judy, Betty and J, what an interesting post going on here. The reason I own the two businesses today is because I lost my job almost 7 years ago. DS, DD and myself started our first business and 4 months later I decided to hire someone to take my place and headed to school. After 2 weeks in school the kids called and ask if we wanted to start another business in a different area so back to the bank and we did. Within a year and a half we started our third business which we closed after a year due to bad weather (150 miles away)and employees with no work ethics. Today the three of us have 4 business locations and I've never looked back. I thank my Dear Heavenly Father every day for all his blessings he sends down. I've always thought when one door closes another one opens. We have had some rocky roads but just keep working hard and stay positive. I hope all of you are blessed like we have been and I will get to hear good news soon from all of you. Life is short and we sure don't need burdens so give them away. Kippenhill, I agree these bowls are beautiful and we don't have any around here either. Punk |

| Betty, Punk and J, I was so glad to log on and see your posts. It's nice to have someone to share with, even if they're 'strangers.' :) We did have a little good news today. A recruiting firm called and arranged an interview for my DH tomorrow. It's in Dallas right off a major freeway with loads of traffic, but it is a chance for work. I am going with him and wait in the car. I want him to feel my support as he's been a little down lately. Things are hard for lots of people in our country. It breaks my heart. Our situation could be worse. I am a survivor and also believe that when one door shuts, another one opens. I've had that happen many times in my life. I, too, have had to stay away from my favorite store. I have a fabric store I visit at least once a week. I told the owner that I was partly responsible for him having the finances to build a new home. :-) I've spent so much money on fabric, even though I have a huge stash in my sewing room. I can't help myself...it's an addiction. lol... On to another subject...I put my Christmas tree up yesterday. It's pre-lit so I'm enjoying the lights and will dig out the decorations this weekend. My son and daughter may visit on Saturday and if so, I'll get them to help. They love reminiscing over the macaroni, construction paper and cotton ball ornaments. I saved all their handiwork during the early school years. I've started a penguin quilt for my daughter in law. Once it's finished, I'll start something pink for my daughter. She's having a girl, but my DIL doesn't know and doesn't want to. So she's getting a generic quilt. :) Well,, I've gotten way off the subject of pumpkin bowls. I am a newbie when it comes to forum protocol. Hope I haven't broken any rules. I am enjoying getting involved. Any suggestions on the do's and don'ts would be appreciated. Bedtime for this TX gal. Hope to talk with you ladies again soon. Judy (Ft Worth) |
For everyone with job or other heavy concerns:
| | |
| I so hope everything works out for all of you. I know how hard it is to get through the bad, worrisome times. Punk, thanks for sharing your inspiring story. No doubt there are many more here on the forum. For me, having faith and putting one foot in front of the other when you think you can't go any further, works. Not always easy, but it works. You are all in my prayers, Lee == On a lighter note: I, too, am cutting down on buying "things". Then I get concerned about the economy tanking further without me spending. (-: This may be my last post for a while. I need to call my ISP. It has taken me way too long to try to get this posted. |
RE: Betty - About the Pumpkin Bowls...

| Judy, I will be praying for your DH's new job. And we aren't strangers here. We are FAMILY. When Alfred (my DH) got caught in that machine last June and got crushed so badly, the first time DD came and I felt it was safe enough to leave him with her for a minute, I found a computer and came here to ask my family here to pray. Many a day they kept us going with their prayers and encouragement. When he turned the corner and got strong enough to sit in a wheelchair, I took him to the computer room and showed him the posts giving us love, encouragement, and most of all prayer. He saw first hand how wonderful this family here is. Big old tears filled his eyes when he saw the posts from all over lifting him (and me) up. It is just not fluff here. They come along beside you and help you carry the burden when it gets too hard to carry alone. You're in a good place here. Ever since I used to watch Dallas many years ago, I've always wanted to see Texas. I've heard that traffic down there is bad. After reading about Lady Bird's efforts to beautify the roadsides with flowers, I would love to come when the bluebonnets are blooming. My SIL drove a truck for a while and said that Texas was flat with nothing to look at, but he only saw the road. He wasn't looking for the beauty. (Y'all know how men are.) After all, Jaybird is there and now I've found you. So I know of at least 2 Beauties! OH NO!! A fabric addiction! Girl, you had better not hang out with us, then. It's almost impossible to stay here and not catch the "DISH ADDICTION"!! Can you handle 2 addictions?!?! LOL Make sure to post pictures of your tree with all of the "Family Heirlooms" on it. The homemade ones that were my presents are my favorites. The forum rules are to just be yourself and share. And we are always looking for the rainbow in the storm. If you keep the pictures coming we will be happy. Punk, we may have to do another post sometime so we can hear about your business. It would be interesting to hear how you got from unemployed to a business owner. Tell us it involves dishes and we will be REALLY happy!! Did you ever get to finish school? Lee, Please call whoever you need to so you can post. We would miss you too much if you couldn't post. Besides, we need to hear how you are keeping the economy strong!! |
RE: Betty - About the Pumpkin Bowls...

| My husband just left for his interview. He looked so handsome I told him they couldn't resist hiring him just based on his looks. :-) He's a sweetie and I love praising him. We've been married for almost 12 years and it's been the best years of my life, outside of my two children, of course. I was in a bad marriage for 25 years and after four years of being single, I met Bob. He's retired Navy and is everything I could ask for in a husband. I NEVER believed I could find such a precious man. God does answer prayer! I'll let everyone know how his interview went. Yes, TX is flat in most areas. The traffic can be bad if you don't know how to take the short cuts. I've lived here all my life so I know how to maneuver around quite nicely. The bluebonnets are pretty in the spring. The sides of the freeways look as though someone had a huge bag of seed and just slung in every direction. Beautiful blues...really gorgeous. You will often see people, with small children, sitting in the flowers taking pictures. One of our local country radio stations plays a song during this time called the "Bluebonnet Squat." It's hilarious! I guess my two addictions are fabric and dishes. I am a QVC regular. I sometimes have it on all day just watching and thinking of reasons why I have to buy everything I want. I have bought many serving pieces and speciality/cutsie dishes. I can't help myself. I love to entertain and have all the cool dishes, trays, etc. I have a small family, but I tend to go all out on holidays and birthdays. I recently bought some pretty, Christmas red bakeware from Rachael Ray. Did I need them? Of course not. But they were red and I thought how pretty lasagna would look baked in it. I have some cute Santa and snowman mugs on hold. I thought they would be fun drinking hot chocolate from. Our winters aren't really very cold here, but hot chocolate does work when the temps drop below freezing. Betty, sorry to hear about your husband's accident. I hope he has recovered well. I do understand how it makes one feel to know others are praying during difficult times. It does give encouragement to keep hanging on. I too, many times, just take one step a time. The last couple of weeks it's been taking one hour at a time, but regardless of DH's job situation, we are blessed and I have no complaints! .....other than I need a bigger kitchen for my dishes! lol Once I learn how to post pictures, I'll put some up. I have a cute pix or our two dachshunds. We adopted them last April and are they a lot of fun. We had one dachshund for 10 years and lost her. We waited a few months before we even considered getting another pet. I found them on an adoption website and fell in love. They are masters of the house now. I lost control the first week we had them. :) Punk, I would love to hear about your business, too. It must be good to be your own boss. Jaybird....when I was signing up for this forum, I tried to use 'jaybird' as a log in name. My nickname is "J-Bird." A dear friend's husband called me that over 25 years ago and it stuck. That is how I'm known now in their family. My immediate family call me JuJu. My daddy's mother called me that when I was little and it stuck. My daughter says she wants her baby to call me Grandma JuJu. I used to baby sit for a girl with three boys and they called me that as they weren't close to their grandmother. They are in high school now and they still think of me as that. I love it! Ok, enough of me. I must find something for dinner. I hope it will be a celebration dinner of a new job. I think a pan of brownies are in order. Judy |
