Need you to keep an eye out

We live in Southern California. Three years ago my son was married in Fredericksburg, VA. As a sort of Thank You to all those who came so far to attend the celebration, we hired a bus and escort to take us all to Williamsburg, VA the day after the wedding. The tour included lunch at The King's Arms Tavern in Williamsburg. While there, I purchased two dinner plates and two salad plates like those used at the tavern. I didn't realize it at the time, but they are on the small side and are rendered less convenient with the wide raised rim. So I have been using a black plate underneath when I set the table for my husband and myself (using the dinner plate as a salad plate the the salad plate as a B & B).

OK. So I'll get on with this. I'd like to find a large pewter-looking plate (preferably with the Queen Anne scallops around the edge, but that's not a must) to use instead of the black plate. If you see anything that fits the bill, let me know. It doesn't have to be REAL pewter. Cost is not much of a factor, as I only need two. The main problem is finding something big enough, as the plate's useable space is small, but the diameter isn't THAT small. I have tried looking at chargers as well. Either is OK.

Have you all noticed how much I've been visiting this forum these past few days? I'm done with the flu and when I wake from brief naps throughout the day, I'M BORED. Hence, all my posting.

Anyway, watch for pewter plates, OK?

    OA,
I have seen a lot of pewter trays/chargers at Cost Plus World market. Next time I am there, I will check if they have any plates of that kind.

Glad to hear you are feeling better now.:)

OA...very nice plates. The pattern is very striking.
I remember during the holidays, seeing large pewter like chargers in Home Goods. I will keep an eye out as well.
I think that would be a nice accent for your plates.

Funny, I've been doing the same thing 'hanging out w/computer'... and resting in between. Seems I've come down with some sort of bug.. I've been down for about a week and a half. I started with a cold and then had a relapes and became much worse. I'm just beginning to shake it..however, now I've got a UTI..oh joy!
Take care..hang in there, I hope you have Sun to cheer you up!

No sun here, Jane. But then again, no UTI either. Lordie! Hang in there.

I have an entire set of the Wilton Armetale Country French pattern and love it. Might this be what you're looking for?

But search ebay for Crown Castle pewter. It's also in the Country French pattern.

Funny you should mention that monablair...
I was also thinking along those lines with Armetale..
With their Queen Anne Charger. They come in both Polished or Matt finish. (I've also seen them on 'The Find' website.
OA... I their too pricey...maybe with some serious web surfing..you might find them for less..

Those are wonderful plates, OA! Very pretty and not a design you see evey day. Have you done a search over on Ebay for them? I'll definately keep an eye out for pewter/pewter-look chargers for you. IMO, the brushed, rather than a bright polished finish would look best with your pretty dishes.

    Those are lovely, OA..
I will keep my eyes open for sure..
Monablair..it has been ages..and I know you have a collection of armentale...

    Where's Luvs?

Jane, hope you are feeling better...7 days of back pain here..getting on my nerves..literally my hand, elbow, leg numb!
    We are falling apart!

Thank you one and all. I'm ordering the Armetale.

Lynne, I believe you are right. Since my dishes are not at all on the delicate side, but rather thick and heavy-looking, the matte finish seems like a better fit. In addition, I have a pair of pewter-like candle holders that have a matte finish as well. So might as well stick with that.

Again, thanks to all who chimed in. I've very excited to get the chargers and work with this tablescape for two.

I should think a plain cream table cloth would be sufficient. And I am thinking of looking for a couple of placesetting of flatware that have a knife with a pistol grip handle.

Any suggestions for items that might add to the look? I'm feeling that the color scheme is a little blah, but can't figure out what to add. I do have a Christmas tablescape in mind using red accent pieces. But I'm not sure how to complete an everyday tablescape.

If anything pops into your head, give me a shout out.

    Thanks again, OA

Those are unique plates OA, bet they make you feel quite "regal" when you use them too. Glad the others were able to help you with the chargers for them. Will look, forward to seeing your tablescape.

Jane and Kathleen, so sorry you are both "under the weather"--hope you feel better soon.

OA...glad you were able to decide on your chargers.
I agree with the Matte finnish being the best look.
I'm looking forward to you getting them and showing them off with your dishes.

Kathleen..thank you, and I hope you are on the mend soon.
Back issues are awful..every move you make >> Ouch!

Thank you Luvs.. I've got a Dr's Appointment on Thurs..got to get this out of my system. It's been too long.

From which store did you order the Armetale chargers? I found there was pricing from the $70's to the mid $40's.

    Mona

Just be aware that though the designs are almost identical Queen Anne has a polished finish and Country French has a matte finish.

    Mont,
I ordered two from Picnic World (45.49) THROUGH the Amazon website. Shipping for 2 was 8.99, I believe. Of course, they will take 3 to 4 weeks to arrive (don't ask me why), but I don't care. I'm in no particular hurry. Don't use the Williamsburg dishes very often, but they do have a certain sentimental value attached to them and I've always wanted to pair them up with some pewter-y things. The truth is, I've seen other New-England-tavern-like dishware that I like much better, but these hold a special meaning that any others just wouldn't.

Yes, I did FINALLY figure out that Country French was the matte finish. I sort of like the Queen Anne design a teensy bit better, but the two are so much alike that I'm bound to forget the difference even before the chargers arrive!

Again, thanks for pointing me in that direction. Once I looked into them, I clearly recalled seeing WA serving dishes from time to time. And I also remembered never stoppping to check them out again after I looked at the price! I don't think I ever knew there were whole placesettings.

I'm happy. I will now be able to set the table like I've always imagined.

If you need more items try The Cozy Pineapple. They charge more for shipping but the chargers sell for $40.75. And delivery is usually within 1½ weeks.

Your table is going to be gorgeous with these chargers. Be careful, though, the Armetale dishes are highly addictive once you see them on your table.

    Mona,
Thanks for the Cozy Pineapple tip. I've bookmarked the site's page with all the Country French. If I am pleased with the look, I am considering getting a few serving pieces to balance it out. That means getting one a month, perhaps - or, most likely, saving for a few months and ordering two or three to cut down on shipping charges.
Do you have a picture of one of your table settings to share? If it's not too inconvenient, could you please post a picture here or post a link to it?
I'd love to see it in use. As I said before, I never realized that the Wilton Armetale line offered anything more than serving pieces.

This is just a simple setting without the major serving pieces. I have the matching small wine goblets, soup plates and the pewter coffee cups with the ceramic inserts that are part of the place settings.

Oh, Mona, bless your little baby heart!
Have you ever been shopping for a car and found a certain a model you're interested in, and suddenly you see that car EVERYWHERE and you never really noticed it before????
Well, that's what you did for me with your picture.

I sat in my family room and looked at your table setting and then I looked up at the shelf above our bar TV, and there were two goblet trophies my son won at the Pheonix Fiesta Bowl Tennis tournament when he was 12 and 14. We had them for . . . well, let me see, he just turned 30. I got them down and turned them over and there was a sticker on the bottom of one that said, "Wilton Armetale brand products are handcrafted in the USA with Armetale metal. . ."
Ha! Of course, they have a big design on one side and some engraving on the other, but I think they'll be just perfect!

    {{gwi:1427118}}

I think I'm getting a little light headed. This tablescape-in-the-making is beginning to take on a life of its own!
