pink & roses!

Finally did a vignette on my bedroom dresser. Just shopped my house for things that are pink or have pink roses. I might leave this for awhile as it's not really specifically Valentine theme.

Chalkboard was a mirrored backboard of a vintage sideboard I had. Long sad story, no longer have it but saved this and DH put a board in and painted it with chalkboard paint. It's hung high as we used to have our bed here which has a tall headboard. I'm leaving it because I move things around often. Many of these things are yard sale finds. The white metal basket was silver but it wasn't a good silver one (made in China) so I had DH paint it white. I've displayed a few pink vintage brooches in it. The vintage hand embroidered linen table square is folded in half and we'll pretending I ironed it! ;-) Have I mentioned before how much I don't like getting the iron out!

Photobucket

Closer. Perfume bottle new, also the framed print but the frame was originally gold and we painted it white.

Photobucket

Close-up with the candles out. Amazing how bright a few tealights are in pics. Pink ball was a very happy find (still in original box) as I collect handblown glass.

Wish the photography could be better but it is what it is. I've tried every setting but likely could do better with a tripod.

What a lovely theme...It's very pretty, soft and romantic looking.
I agree, you can leave this out...not just as a Valentine vignette.
What type of paint did DH use on your metal basket..
I'm interested in knowing what type you can use on metal, that doesn't flake off?

Perfect in pink!
I love the cloche the pink glass bottle and the print the most. The candles and pearls add the right amount of flare & the basket with holes in it lightens the whole setting topped just right with the pink glass ball.
Love it all and agree it can be left out for long past the holiday.

Oh, this is very nice, luckygal...love how you "gathered" everything from around your home. Roses are wonderful...in the cloche, teacup & the print...linen looks perfect!,...crocheted edging, too. Very elegant! TFS! Jeanne S.

Very romantic ! Hope your DH appreciated your efforts & treated you to a special night, spices up a marriage! Anyway you can light the candles & curl up with a good book & make your own dreams!! Rome!! Paris!! Jan

So romantic, so pretty, and I'm so loving the PINK! I just really love how delicate, and elegant, it all looks. You have wonderful pieces and the talent to put them together.

I'm sorry there's a sad story about the sideboard, but I do have to say you gave me a chuckle with the "chalkboard was a backboard of a sideboard". I definitely like how you did this tho.

LG,
The lamp gives your arrangement such a nice, soft glow.
Love your Pinkie plate too.

Awwwwww.... that is lovely and just my cup of tea. I really like the brooches, I collect them and have over 200, but I forget to use them in displays. Love the basket too. Good job.

Very nice, Luckygal! Good for you, using your imagination to repaint and repurpose things. You're right, that basket looks great painted white. I think painting the board with blackboard paint was a good way to reuse it . . . and you can change the saying whenever you like!

Thanks all for the lovely comments!

Jane, DH used spray Tremclad which in the US is Rustoleum. It's shiny which I don't like for everything but it covers better than the matte finish white spray he uses for other things. He used to get a really good matte white spray at a large Canadian discount store but they've discontinued it and he's not been happy with any others he's tried. He always dreads when I say I want something spray painted white! He's a good guy tho and does it.

MM, I've been collecting pearls at YS for awhile and hadn't used them much except thrown in a hurricane so this was fun.

Jeanne, I really never knew I had so many rose things til I started gathering. Someone (maybe my DM) spent some time embroidering that cloth and I'll have to do a tea setting with it.

Sunny, my DH didn't notice my dresser last night and I had to point it out. I'm always changing things and I think it's a blur for him. However, he did notice the day I had cleaned that blackboard and not rewritten "always kiss me goodnight"! Forty three years of wedded bliss for us, well, that's not quite true since we live in reality, but he's a keeper for sure and is more of a romantic than I am. How I would love a trip to Paris! Altho the weather there is crummy in February so I'd prefer April or May.

Karen, yeah, a few too many "boards" in that sentence! :-D The sideboard was bot 30 years ago for $10 and before I really had a clue about old furniture/shabby chic, etc. so I started stripping it to refinish, then we moved and it was badly damaged, the mirror broke, and we threw it out but kept the mirror part. Can't believe I didn't just paint it but didn't see that as an option. Hindsight - always 20/20. It had really nice lines.

OA, love that $2 lamp and after taking those pics I think it might look better painted. I have the set, Pinkie and Blue Boy.

Kathleen, I love playing with my junk and get lots of ideas from all the posters here.

Syble, wow, 200 brooches, I'd love to see a pic of them. You have enough to do a beautiful tree like Jeanne did. I buy vintage jewelry whenever I find it cheap and use them in various ways and sometimes wear things too. I've had lots of compliments on an ornate bead bracelet I paid 25 or 50 cents for.

Lynn, since we retired one of our hobbies is repurposing the pre-owned treasures we find. Have so many now I'm going to have a sale soon. Then I can buy more! Totally running out of space right now.

LG, your vignette is so pretty and looks very romantic. I love your basket and the rose print. The pearls add the perfect touch.

LG, I love Rustoleum (your Tremclad) and use it a lot. If you don't want it to be shiny on something, wouldn't a flat..matte.. spray sealer over it tone it down? I prefer semi-gloss, but once in a while need the gloss or the matte for certain things. I normally like shiny, LOL. But I also learned from a tip somewhere, that matte clear spray works as a primer on glass and stuff so you can paint regular paint over it without flaking off.

RE: pink & roses!

Thanks so much Dream.

Karen, I had heard that about clear sealer but haven't tried it. Have used satin clear over flat black on furniture and frames which works well. Thanks for the tip about the matte clear on glass, I didn't know that. I kinda like that this metal basket is shiny and it's probably going in my sale so hope someone else does too! I originally saw the idea of painting silver things at on online shabby chic store.

Just lovely....so romantic and dreamy feeling. Love the color choice too...one of my favorites!

RE: pink & roses!

Thought I had posted to this already--must have hit a wrong button or something.

LG, this is the type of decorating that just makes my heart "sing". I love the soft pink and creamy white combinations, especially when they turn out so romantic looking like this one of yours. You put it all together so nicely.

RE: pink & roses!

Thanks Marlene and Luvs! Since DH repainted our old bedroom set and made me a shutter headboard our bedroom is less traditional and more cottagey so really lends itself to pastels and romantic style which I love playing with. My DH isn't big on really froo-froo style so I'm raising the level slowly! This room *will* eventually have some lacey curtains around the bed - I just haven't told him yet! ;-)

RE: pink & roses!

I forgot to mention in my previous post, LG, that I agree, this is definitely a vignette that you can keep up all the time. Lovely!

RE: pink & roses!

This is making me smile because I have the same pink heart with roses (that is hanging on the edge of your picture) on a tray on my dining table!! Your room is beautiful!!
It's for sure a small world!
Thanks for posting,
J

That's very pretty and *feminine*... and I'm a sucker for pearls! :)

RE: pink & roses!

Lynn, while I say I may leave it up and know it's a good theme for our bedroom year-round, it probably won't stay more than a few weeks. I change things very often! So much fun. Sometimes I think I should go back to work and/or get a life! LOL

J, I was trying to remember where I got that pink heart and I also have a yellow one. They had pot pourri (or something with scent anyhow) in them but I removed it so I could change the hangers for nicer ribbon.

Party Music, I love pearls also and buy them in yard sales whenever I can. Do you decorate with yours, and if so, hope you will post a pic.

Thanks so much for the nice comments.
