I'm thinking this would be really cute for Halloween, with little owls or bats on the limbs...and other stuff to add interest as Jane noted.
It would work for other holidays as well probably. Just a matter of adding right stuff to it.

We used to make something similar using dowels to hang our "primitive" painted ornaments on. I like the tree branch idea. Luvs

how cute! i could make that right now with some sticks outside and i have a few birds like that in my attic
