My week's work

DH and I went to Sedona to work on our house. The renters are not using the artist studio, so we redecorated it and are moving some items into it prior to when we retire and winter there.

Before it was a lovely mix of aqua and turquoise with a linoleum tile floor and vertical blinds.

Now it is Behr Winter Wheat with white trim and faux 2" white blinds. We also laid a Pergo Hickory Oak wood veneer floor.

It was a lot of work, but we are pleased with how it turned out.

Candy

Wow!! What a transformation! It doesn't look like the same room! I love the wall color and the floors. You and DH have every reason to be pleased! What a wonderful place to retire. I hear there are a few golf courses there ;)

Wow! Looks great! Is the big roll on the floor the Pergo...it's put down pc x pc, isn't it...like hardwood floors. Anyway, it's beautiful! Nice vacation, candy! And to have an artist studio is a dream (for when you retire) I mean! TFS! Jeanne S.

Kath, Oak Creek Golf Course in the village of Oak Creek is where we got married, on the 4th hole. Needless to say it is a special location and very close to our 2nd home, so yes, there are some golf courses there, LOL

Jeanne, the big roll is a piece of mauve carpet that was in the room. The Pergo does go down plank by plank. Fortunately, it is now snap and lock. We did a Pergo floor many yrs ago in a different house that we had to glue each plank and use ratchet straps to lock it together. That was a huge PITA!! LOL

Punk, Nana, and Marlene, It does look much better now!

We liked it so much that we will probably do the same flooring in the living and dining area when we actually live there.

    Thanks everybody.

candy ... one of my DD's added that for a floor when they added on a double garage to their house & made a second story for family/playroom...it has worn like 'steel' ...kids toys rolling across the floor, treadmill, lots of indoor tracking! I bet you will love it! It looks beautiful! Jeanne S.

Candy great transformation on that room...like Night & Day!
Love your color choices. The floor was an excellent idea and will be so much easier to maintain.I'm not one for rugs other than area rugs.
Sounds like you and DH have a wonderful plan when you retire..from pics I seen of Sedona - it looks like a Paradise... Good for you!!

NICE!!! I would *LOVE* to have an artist's studio like that to work in!!! What size is the room and is it totally detached from the house/living area??? I cannot believe that your renters wouldn't use the space for something... for storage or even an exercise room!

Candy, we are avid golfers here too! My idea of a great wedding is a warm sunny day, a 4-man scramble with beer on the course, and a pig roast/BBQ party after the event. ok... skip the wedding and just do the rest! ;O)

Jeanne, I love how it turned out. I prefer a darker tone wood over the light. Just my personal taste. We won't live there permanently, it will be a retirement home, but with my DGK's in Colorado, I plan on going back and forth between there and CO.

Jane, Sedona is gorgeous. It is south of Flagstaff and just on the edge of Oak Creek Canyon where it transitions from the side of the canyon to the desert. It has beautiful red rocks and it is considered a "vortex" by lots of people who are into crystals and mystical beliefs.
I just like the scenery, myself.

PM, it is a large room, about 20 X 22 and was added on to the home by the previous owner. It is separate from the main house, but attached to the far side of the attached garage and can be reached by going through the garage or from the outside back patio. The renters wanted a reduction in their rent, so we reduced the rent and they moved out of the room. They are an elderly father and his middle aged daughter and she used to use the room to give massages and readings, but has not used the room for some time, so they were thrilled to relinquish possession of the room for the lower rent.

For the wedding, we played the course first and then went back out for the ceremony. Priorities!!

Since it was not a first wedding for either of us, it wasn't important to have a big ceremony. It was a beautiful day.

    Thanks again,

Candy, I love what you did to that room! What color is the flooring? I am trying, for a year now, to talk myself into having it put in my house instead of the carpet I have now. I love the shade you used, as I am a "dark wood" kinda gal.

It will be neat to have you in Sedona, I might get to meet up with you yet. Or you could come Christmas shop IN my house sometime, LOL, since I need to downsize it one of these days.

    hugs, Karen

Karen, I am going to get all the way to Phoenix on one of our Sedona trips, but absolutely no extra time this trip.

I am sure we could each exchange some Christmas decor!!

The flooring is from Home Depot and is a Pergo wood veneer. It is called Hickory Oak and it already had the pad attached to the back of each plank, so no need to lay an extra underlayer. It was fairly simple to install, but that said..we have a chop saw and a MultiMaster tool, which made it a lot easier. I don't know how I would have made the cuts on the threshholds and the door frames without the MultiMaster.
I also am a huge fan of paint pads as the room has fairly heavy wall texture and I was able to paint the entire room with less than a gallon of the Winter Wheat. The wall we didn't show is a 12 foot wall and the 2 side walls angle up from the front 8 ft wall to the back 12 ft wall.

I am not a big fan of tile as I have a lot of it in our current home. It is hard and cold and anything dropped on it just shatters.

Thanks and we will get together one of my trips.
