This Winter Mantel Is 'For The Birds' !!

When I finally put away all my Christmas decorations, the house looked so dull, especially the mantel.

I've been trying to think of something that would bring a little bright cheer back to that mantel.

I've been enjoying the 'Bird Activity' outside my window at the feeders. They're always so cheerful to watch.

So, I thought I'd bring some of that 'Bird Cheer' inside to put on the Mantel!! lol

Hope you enjoy what I did...

I mixed mercury candleholders with some silver finished ones - some greenery - birds and went from there.

I bought the tall white vase last year at GW for $3 - put some branches I painted white, along with some lighted ones.

I filled a small apothocary with white and clear glass stones and put a white bird under a small cloche.

I had a small wire birdcage that I added a white bird to, my favorite 'Bird Cup' with some greenery for color, a

Royal Stafford black transferware plate -

found at TJM for $2 about three yrs ago and a small

Wedgewood Clock.

The sweet little glass birds are the top from a small candy dish..

Now since it's been so quiet here on Holiday..how about you all joining in with your 'Winter Mantel'..

Come on - it can be real simple or 'over the top'..whatever makes you smile!

Are you with me? I'll be watching for you.

BTW...thanks for taking the time to look at mine!

Beautiful! Very cozy & like how the "light" reflects so it looks like their is a light on in that lovely picture, is it a painting? Birds soften the scene & make it come alive! Love your bird cup too! Jan

I like this alot, jane! I esp like that idea of the bird under the cloche...looks great! And your candlesticks & 'remotes' are wonderful! Just the right amount of 'bling' on your mantle w/the painted branches & light sticks! That GW vase was a $$$ bargain & works so beautifully w/the branches!

Always love seeing framed 'photos' & the addition of the little clock. Picture perfect, jane! I love it! TFS! Lovely! Jeanne S.

Jane, beautiful mantel. Love the variety of birds you used. So clever to sit the little glass birds from a candy dish on here. Your Wedgewood Clock is so cute with all your decor on here.

All your candles and the lighted branches look so pretty in your new wht vase. Great find! The Royal Stafford black transferware plate is awesome. Love that one.

Wish I had a mantel and I'd join in.

How BEAUTIFUL! You know I'm crazy about birds, and mercury glass...so you better believe I love what you did with them!
That bird on branch under the cloche is really neat!
    You always decorate so beautifully!

I'll see if I can do something on my mantel or teacart.
I'd like to join in with your decorating thread.

Thank You Ladies for your lovely comments!

Jeanne - Punk...you're always so sweet with your compliments.

Jan...that's a print over the mantel. It's done so well that you'd think it was an original.
I spotted it at a Consighment shop and fell in love with the subject and how well it was done.

Karen..I knew the Birds & Mercury would catch your attention! I'm happy you'll join in...

    Nana...get that 'thinking cap' cooking...
We need some 'action' here. It's been so quiet and
Valentine's Day is weeks away so we need to get something going before then!

OKay ladies..we'll be looking forward to your Winter mantels/vignettes.
Remember, anything you do - will inspire someone...we need to get the
    fire going here!

    My vintage tea cart

Close-up....the bird nest is real, a friend found and gave me. The little eggs in it are plastic.

My mantel looks pretty pathetic. I had planned to put a piece of garland on it that I was going to spray lightly with white paint, but then I ended up just packing up all the garland with my Christmas stuff instead. Now I regret it. :o(

I stuck my larger cardinal and some berries in the big cage that sits on the little table of my late grandmother's (between kitchen counter and the large china cabinet my Village was in)

Top of the tiny bookcase by my front door.

Nothing to do with winter decorating, but here is Teegan's tiny tea party. She is wearing the purple dress her "Aunt Jeanne" sent her. I need to find her some little lace doilies or something to spiff up her high chair at times like this.

I probably shouldn't even share these pix, its easy to see I haven't put much effort into my decorating this month. But maybe it will spur me into doing better for Valentines.

Hey, good to see Teegan again!!! What a darling tea set for her!...like how you put it up on the pedestal stand! I don't know if 'purple' is her color, purplemoon! LOL! Yup, she needs some pretty doilies for her tray...I'm sure you'll come up w/that sometime in the future! LOL! And I love her playthings there on the tray'scape!

I love that arrangement on the book stand & w/those birds nesting! Beautiful! And how you 'blinged' up that cage on your gr'ma's pc...pretty cardinal, too!

I bet you do feel like your mantel is naked w/Christmas decor gone cause you go all out on it...& it was beautiful...but you know what, you can add some berries here or something...the most impressive thing is the portrait of your DSon, anyway! So play around when you feel like it...I've enjoyed lookin'...Jeanne S.

Karen you made my 'heart smile' seeing you here and joining in!
Great vignette on the teacart. (one of my favorite pieces of yours) I'm glad to see you using your new ceramic birds. I always love looking a cloche vignettes, and yours with the nest and tiny eggs makes me look forward to Spring.
Teegan in her cute little outfit with her little bunny friends and tea set is too cute! I love that large birdcage with the cardinal and berries. I don't remember seeing it before.
I think Jeanne is right about decorating the mantel after Christmas...it's so hard to match what was there before with 'just Winter' and she's right about your Son's picture and also about taking your time playing with it...before you know it..you'll be adding Valentines!
Glad you joined in..I enjoyed looking too.

Well Karen, I'm tickled to see your decor too. So glad you joined the party. Everything looks great! I agree it's hard when you go all out for Christmas on your mantel and don't have as much for the others. But it still looks great.

So fun to see how you added the vine on your lamp to go with the birds and nest on your tea cart. That's the cleanest real bird nest I've ever seen. If all of you keep showing me cloches hopefully I'll get there one day.HA

Love your bird cage. It's such a neat shape. The lg brown vase is so pretty and those birds are neat beside it. Most of your decorating will work clear into Spring if you want it to.

Little Teegan is adorable with her china tea set and bunny friends. I really like the tea set up on pedestal stand too. The little bunny's blue hat looks pretty cute.

I best head to bed. It's still snowing. We have at least 10" already. The news said fog and freezing rain in the morning on top of it. The snow plows couldn't keep up earlier today so it will be interesting. How's all of your weather? Stay safe and warm.

It is fun when we have more to enjoy here.
