Ideas Please!!!!! Hoodie Hoo Day!!!

Every year at my sisters store, we go all out for Hoodie Hoo Day................
About this holiday: On February 20, at high noon (local time) citizens are asked to go
outdoors and yell "Hoodie-Hoo!" to chase winter away. It's time to make ready for spring, which is only a month away.

We've been doing it for 17 years and I am just wondering if anyone has any corny ideas. We have food on all day long, everyone in the village donates stuff, and most everyone is there at noon to go out and holler Hoodie Hoo to chase away winter. It is a lot of fun and just an excuse to get out of the house for a few hours. Last year we were on the local news station and in the local newspaper. YAY!!!! Now keep in mind that our local newspaper comes out once a week. Ha! It is just a bunch of people getting together for fun. Last year I made 100 invitations to hand out at the store, and a sun. Thsi year I am going to make a sun and snow cloud with fists in the air fighting for their rights to their season! We like to do something different each year, and I sure would appreciate any help from all of you. We like to keep it funny, so most anything goes. Thanks a LOT!!!!!!!!

It's true when they say, you learn something new every day,
this is the first time I've ever heard of this. This is what
I found on the net with regards to this day.

February 20th
Hoodie-Hoo Day - At high noon people in the Northern Hemisphere are asked to go outdoors and yell "Hoodie-Hoo" to chase away winter and make ready spring, one month away. Plan a "Spring Is in the Air Party." Decorate with pastel colors and artificial spring flowers. Wear straw hats. Serve lemonade and cookies. See how many types of spring wildflowers your guest can name. (Jack-in-the-pulpit, violets, Trout Lilly.)

Sounds like you are going to have loads of fun.

This sounds just wonderful. Hey, You could scan a little smiling sun and run off a lot on the computer. Then put sticky back paper on the prints and cut them out and glue to a little cardboard circle. I guess you could glue a little ribbon on to hang from a button. These could also be done with out the sunshine just Hoodie Hoo.
Gosh, Pls post photos when it's over.

RE: Ideas Please!!!!! Hoodie Hoo Day!!!

Well, Ruthanna, I will let you know after February 20th!!! LOL! I am still deciding on what all to make. If I remember, I'll post it, but you have to remember that the village we do it in has about 6 houses, but people come from neighboring towns and in some of those towns, there is like a couple hundred people, Ha! In one town, there is a bank AND a grocery store! LOL! It's a HOOT!

Sorry-thought it was Jan 20th. Then I do have an idea for you. One year my daughter's grade school class had a "sun day" and one of the things they made was sunpops. They were oranges stuck on a thick wooden skewer. Then they stuck pineapple chunks on toothpicks around in a circle for the sun rays. Raisins for eyes and 1/4 marachino cherry for mouth. They paraded around waving these things and it was so funny. Then ate them for lunch. Sunpops could fit right in with Hoodie Hoo Day!

It went great and everyone had a good time. Obviously it didn't chase winter away though. I was unable to go this year due to illness in my family, but hope next year things will be better
