She is still in the hospital ... here is her husbands post from yesterday (Day 16) ... I don't know about sharing all this here on Holiday forum but noted that before Lynne went into the hospital she said in a post it was ok ... if you are a Facebook person, you can ask to 'friend' Tom Mann & see daily updates...

Lynne definitely needs continuing PRAYER from us...Here's Tom's post:

    update 1/3/13 ~ Day 16
"Today, I'd say Lynne had a 'fair' day. She, and we, are learning how to get through the additional drain line they put in yesterday. It's doing it's job, but it's location, and the fact that it extends deeper into her abdomen are much more irritating that other drains or tubes or other things that have bee attached to her over these past couple weeks. She says it's not a 'pain' as such, but she feels pressure from it that it bothersome. It's uncomfortable when she walks (we walked twice today - hopefully she gets another stroll tonight) and it's uncomfortable when she sits in a chair. It's OK, though, when she in bed.

She saw the original surgeon (Dr. Kim) this morning during rounds (he had been off for a week but had been following the case) and I ran in to him in the elevator lobby as I got there this morning. We had a good conversation - 10-15 minutes of one-on-one, talking about the whole case from day one until now.

Naturally, he was less than happy about the current situation, and went into detail about the possibilities to rectify the situation. Besides the the I explained last night ( no food or water for a couple weeks, and maybe things will separate and heal independently, or surgery to correct the 'fusion' in a couple months. He offered a third possible option that could help with the healing if the 'no food or water' for a couple weeks doesn't week.

That would be putting her on a diet very heavy on the roughage side. Lots of fiber and salads and such, and when Lynne mentioned our current winter garden, he thought that would be excellent if we went that route. The theory with this would be that the stool would be much more solid and pass by the area with the 'leak', and would still allow the 'hole' to heal up.
Obviously, there are a lot of unknowns that can only be addressed with time. We both understand these options, and are both OK with how things are being handled, treated, and discussed.

Back to Lynne's day. Her legs feel a little weaker today - she called them 'sea legs' - more wobbly today than the last couple - but then again, she didn't distance walk yesterday with the mid-day procedures. On the up-side, her breathing volume has increased today over the last 2 days. That had dropped off a little with the local anesthesias yesterday, and the fact that they're now giving her light pain meds before they change the would dressings. She still works with her Spyrometer to help her breathing, most of the time without being reminded, but like she said, it's easy to forget when everything gets moved out of the way when the surgeons or nurses come in to change dressings or do other necessary things -- bath, bed change, potty breaks, etc... but she knows how important it is to continue.
We also met with the assigned "Wellness Nurse", Mimi, today. I think her daily visits will help Lynne. I guess she is sort of a psychologist, asking lots of questions, responding in depth to the answers, and while I know it's her job, she does come across as showing genuine interest in Lynne's situation. She admitted up front that her usual place is working with cancer and chemo patients, but was asked to work with Lynne as well.
Just before our 2nd walk this afternoon, a pulmonary specialist hooked up a breathing apparatus for Lynne to breathe into for ---well, he said "This'll take about 10 minutes", but in reality, it was 45. Lynne is correct in her observations -- "EVERYTHING takes a long time in the hospital!" The purpose of this device was to measure her Oxygen intake and her Carbon Dioxide output. Those measurements will determine the calories and nutrients and all the good things that will be feeding Lynne over the next (?) days or weeks. I'm probably not explaining all of this well, but at least Lynne and I understand, and when we don't, we ask questions."

Yes ...it sounds like her original laser surgery for the cancer went thru just find ...but that surgery caused a severe problem by 'nicking' something...I do not know all the details but it was a life-threatening issue & she has a long recovery time ahead ...which today is day 17 in the hospital. Continued good thoughts & prayers for Lynne! Jeanne S.

OMG, it sounds like they really screwed up with the surgery! It's a shame that she has to go through all of this and I'm hoping things improve for her soon.

Dear, dear, Lynn, I am thinking of you and sending good vibes your way.

I was once in the hospital for just five days. Those days seemed to draaaaaag on and on. It didn't matter if I was feeling better or worse, it just seemed like each day was about 72 hours long. I can't imagine all you are going through. Have you discovered late night TV yet??? They show the strangest things between 12 and 5 am!!! No use going to sleep during those hours. As I'm sure you discovered, they're just going to wake you up again anyway.

Try and stay mentally strong. I do believe that "fighters" do better than the average person in such situations. Much love to you. OA

I've been following updates on FB, and its just heartbreaking what a tough time Lynne is having. And her husband for that matter. I'm sure he's been so stressed and exhausted. I keep praying she'll be home soon. What she's gone thru is unbelievable!! But as OA said, Lynne is a 'fighter'... and with a lot of love and prayers, she'll be back with us in the near future.

    hugs, Karen

I'm so sorry to hear about all the complications Lynn is going through.
How stressful for her and her husband. It's good that
he's there to support her through all of this although I'm
sure he could use some too.
I pray she'll be able respond to treatment quickly and they can both come home soon.

I am copying & pasting GREAT NEWS from Lynne's hubby, Tom that he posted on Facebook today! Keep those prayers coming, Holiday-ers! Jeanne S.

    Update 1/11/13 ~LYNNE IS HOME!!!~
Finally, after 24 long, arduous days for both of us, in our own different ways, this hospital ordeal is over!
We have to thank Lee and Daniel for the use of their car today so that Lynne could have a more comfortable ride home than our car would have allowed. Lee drove me up this morning, in the fog, mist and rain.

As always seems to happen, nothing happens fast in the hospital setting. The pump equipment for the wound vac that Lynne was sent home with was supposed to be at the hospital around 9. At 10:15, they called me to say they were on the way to the hospital with it. Turns out what they delivered was the exact same unit as what she had in the hospital. Definitely not lightweight and portable. More like large and bulky. We'll learn to make due for now, while they decide if the large unit is what we'll be using for the next couple/few months.
The pump that runs the TPN nutritional bag is much smaller and more portable, but thankfully, with the feedings for just 12 hours overnight, we won't bee too concerned about mobility except for an occasional bathroom break.

We got to the hospital around 11:30 this morning, and were back home around around 4. Meanwhile, our niece Tracey had come over to the house mid-afternoon, not knowing what time the home supplies would be delivered. She had no problem catching up on some recorded episodes of House Hunters while waiting for us to get home. Our daughter Dawn showed up a little after 5 to welcome her Mom home and add to the merriment.
Lynne did surprisingly well getting up the few steps into the house, and was just happy to walk into OUR house and straight to the recliner in the family room - the chair she has decided will be her main 'nest' (for now). That's also where she feels she will be most comfortable sleeping at night for the time being.

The home health nurse got here around 5:20, and spent a good deal of time going over a lot of paperwork with Lynne, then quite a bit of time checking everything out with Lynne.
The supplies arrived right at 6:00 and the Home health nurse then spent a lot of time explaining all the 'stuff' that was in the 2 boxes. Pretty much everything Lynne will need for the next several days. Antibiotics, the nutritional feed, saline and heparin, bandages and tape and batteries and swabs and wipes.
We watched as the new smaller pump was hooked up and packed away in it's tote bag, and tonight's feeding had begun. The antibiotics that she gets each night is self infusing, and only has to be attached to her PIC line.
I had my first test a short while ago, without anyone here. That was simply to disconnect the antibiotic line, then flush and give the line some heparin. Tomorrow evening will be the real test, though. The home health nurse will be here around 6 again, but I will be the one doing all the work while she watches. I hope I remember most of what she showed me tonight, and do it right :)
We have 2 different appointments up in Chapel Hill next week; one on Wednesday and another on Friday. Lynne is hoping that by then she'll be more mobile and stronger, and we can make those trips in our own car...which gives us more charge of our own lives.
Until then, we'll slowly, very slowly adjust to this new beginning of another journey.

For Lynne, she's so thrilled just to be sitting in her own recliner, in her house, currently with one cat curled up next to her.
For me, for the first time in 24 nights, I won't have to go to bed with 2 phones laying beside me, hoping and praying that neither one of them ring during the overnight hours.

For us, once again, we're "Celebrating the Day".
Thank you once again for all your support, care and concern. As we venture out into this new unknown, we're so happy to know so many have been with us the whole time. It is appreciated, more than you'll ever know.

    Wonderful news!!
Despite still seeming to have many things needing tending to and the road of recovery ahead , I truly believe that being HOME is ofton the biggest healer of all.
There's something to be said for actually being in your own surroundings able to sleep / rest when the feeling hits as opposed to nurses waking one up every few minutes for one thing or another.
Still sending prayers and a huge GET WELL SOON Lynne!!

Such great news! So glad to hear Lynne's home.
I agree with Nana...that being home is the biggest healer.
Also to be cared for and surrounded by such a loving support group.
Lynne - continued prayers that each day bring you renewed
    strength and a speedy recovery.
Thanks again Jeanne for posting this update.

I am so glad she is home, such a long time in the hospital for one thing. But I believe she'll heal faster, and certainly feel better just 'being home'. Her ordeal is far from over it seems, but just knowing she is headed in the right direction is such a blessing. As is her dear, sweet husband.

    hugs, Karen
