Glass Bird

Hi Everyone! Thank you for all of your inspirational ideas!!!! This post really isn't about holiday decorations but, after seeing all of your wonderful creations, lends itself toward creating a place setting. :o)

I took my two youngest children "thrifting" today. My wife went to a baby shower, and we just HAD to get out of the house. :o) We found LOTS of treasures at our local, small town, thrift stores! One of the treasures I found was a brownish/gold, painted, heavy, stone bird for 50 cents. When I started cleaning the bird, the ugly paint began rubbing off. I found a white GLASS bird underneath. The bird was handpainted with BEAUTIFUL flowers and the artist's name on the bottom. I looked up the artist online to find her pieces selling for $15 to $20!

When my wife came home, I showed her the beautiful bird. She asked, "Is this for me?!!!" How could I say no? :o) Soooo, I gave my wife the beautiful bird. Without hesitating, she immediately placed the bird with one of the many teacup sets I inherited from my mother who passed away a few years back.

I couldn't believe it! The bird was a perfect match to the teacup set!!!! I told my wife that she should create a table setting with the bird, the teacup set, and other dishes! :o)

Had to share a little find that brightened our day and seemed meant to be!

That beautiful little bird just flew right to his home, no doubt about it! I love the tea set too, its really beautiful!
Makes me remember how my grandmother collected those cups and saucers and had them on shelves in her living-room. I so wish I'd gotten at least one of her's. I don't know what happened to them.

Carol sure knew where that bird belonged!

I guess you can say you found a 'Diamond in the Rough'!
That little bird is just so sweet and lovely.
It compliments the tea set perfectly. I believe you and your wife are not the only ones happy to have found it,
I think the little bird is thrilled to have a 'new life'!

The little bird you found is so pretty. Love the pansey cup and saucer from your DM. Just beautiful setting on the shelf together. Sounds like to got a great buy on it. Keep up the thrifting!

What a fun find! The little bird is such a cute shape, I can see why you would pick it up. I just don't understand why someone would paint it! (They could have just bought a cheap DT bird to paint!) It sure looks pretty sitting there next to that beautiful cup and saucer. ;o)

Thank you for such nice comments! Here's an even better part to the story! I discovered this morning that the pretty little bird is from the Fenton Glass Violets in the Snow collection! I can't believe someone would paint over such a pretty bird. The bad paint job though is probably why the thrift store had it priced it so cheap! LOL Carol is loving her Fenton glass bird. Now she says she wants more of the Violets in the Snow collection! LOL Bet I won't find other pieces for 50 cents! :o)
