OT - Winter Bird Pics on this Snowy Day in IA! (pic heavy)

jeannespines

A snowy cold, cold day in IA so I kept my nose indoors but took some pics thru the living room windows...the Cardinals & lots of birds were very happy to feed in the bird arbor garden!

Since we started emptying out the living, dining & kitchen today...for new flooring, I know I won't have any holiday decor to post for a couple weeks...so hope you enjoy my outdoor pics instead:

Log feeder in front of bird arbor...caught this Cardinal 'couple' feeding today:

They were flying in and out all day...it was so cold so they needed to keep 'fueling' I guess ...

The Bluejays & Cardinals usually chase each other off...but here I caught a pic w/one on each side! ;-)

Close-up of female Cardinal...she was sure flinging the snow around!

And the Bluejay:

And here's a Chickadee (such a pretty bird) sharing w/Cardinal in bird arbor ...or maybe vice versa...Cardinal sharing...

This beautiful Cardinal on the ground:

And I tried & tried & finally caught these Cardinals just 'posing' for me in my garden there:

And on the spilt rail fence, too:

Hope you enjoyed looking at a cold, Wintery day in IA! TFlookin'! Jeanne S.

    Such beautiful pictures!!

I'm glad our snow is gone in the city (except for random patches) and it is letting the mountains have it.

Your snow is so pretty, but I don't care for the cold!!

We had gorgeous weather on Thurs, almost 70 and sunny and of course, I had to work!! Today, we tried to play golf, but it was so windy, it was blowing us all over the place!! Hard to stand up, let alone swing a club! LOL

Seriously, the wind gusts were anywhere from 35-80 MPH!

You do take the most wonderful pictures of your feathered friends! I love how you mute the edges of the pictures!
They would make beautiful postcards or stamps, or greeting cards!

    TFS,
    Candy

    Beautiful pics Jeanne..
I always love seeing your bird pics and how you capture them 'in action'. As hard as I try, I'm not quick enough with the camera to get a clear shot.
Can you come over and show me? !!
We've been having frigid temps here too also with lots of bird activity at the feeders.
DH was sick and laying low this week. I had to convince him to go to the Dr for antibiotics.
The Birds were in a frenzy - the feeders were empty and
the Grkids kept telling him the birds are out of food PaPa...they're starving!! One of them even wrote him a note before they went to school telling him to 'fill the feeder'!
So this morning he went out (feeling guilty) to refill them. We're expecting a snow storm - (probably what you got) - and thought he'd better do it before it hits.
    Everyone is happy now! lol
TFS - your lovely pics they always make me smile.

WONDERFUL PICTURES Jeanne!!! The Cardinals and Blue Jays look so beautiful with their snowy background.
You take the best pictures. They should be published
It's snowing here today YUCK, but it's supposed to warm up staring tomorrow..but maybe freeze up tomorrow night.
I shouldn't complain the weather has been mostly mild here this winter, but I get cabin fever easily.
That is really funny because I'm not an outdoor person lol.
I wish I could afford to go south for the winter [sigh]

Thanks candy, jane & nana ...

Got to enjoy the beauty of Winter, too, don't we! I always get 'cabin fever' too, nana & want to go somewhere else...so far we haven't since retirement ...but some day we may. Of course, candy doesn't need to go...70 deg...gee!(even if spoiled by the wind...ugh!)

jane...hope DH feels better soon! (& smilin' that the gr'kids kept him feedin' the birds!) Jeanne S.

Jeanne, gorgeous birdie and snow pics. All your birds are so darn pretty. You have th nestest feeders and trees to help show them off. Perfect timing on that second pic. to get 5 all in the same shot!

So what kind of flooring have you decided on? I so need to refloor here too. I know I still want carpet in the LR's and BR's. So easy to vac. and be done once a week.

Jane, hope DH starts feeling better so the gkids don't have to worry about the starving birds!LOL Hope you didn't end up with a big dump on the snow this time around.

Candy, can't believe it was almost 70 in Denver. Sure wish the wind wouldn't of ruined your golf game. Is this normal to be able to golf in Jan.?

Jeanne, thanks again for all these wonderful pictures.

Thanks, sameboat & punk...glad you enjoyed the bird pics!

punk..we are putting in Formica Flooring 'laminate' ...here's a link to what it looks like ...but we are buying it locally. I don't know how it's going to be but we've had our old carpet 20+ yrs (berber) & it's worn real good over the yrs. We do have a dog in the house & have our kids' dogs here sometimes...so we thought we'd get away from carpet this time (dining & living room) ...& our kitchen lineoleum needs replaced ...so it will get the same. We look at tile & priced it & wanted 'heat' under it ...but that cost as much as the tiling did...so we vetoed that idea. I hope we will like it ...will have an area rug in living room w/it. We have LOTS of 'wood' in our house which we both like 'wood' (not painted) so we'll see if it's too much or not when the laminate gets down. I'm excited ...but we're emptying 3 rooms here & I guess I accumulate lots of stuff over 40+ yrs here! LOL! Jeanne S.

Jeanne, your bird pictures are beautiful. Snow pictures always look so pretty, but I know what a hassle it can be to have to shovel it. So good that you feed the birds, poor things, everything is all covered up!

I have Berber carpeting too, Jeanne, we put it in when we moved here about eleven years ago. Mine is showing wear in the traffic areas like in front of the couch and love seat, and I found it harder to clean with my steam vac because it was so "textured"--but I loved the look and it was really the "in" thing at that time. Now I need to see about replacing mine too, probably with more carpet unless the flooring guys think they could "blend" new wood in with what's already in my entry and hallway. Wish I would have just put wood in there to start, but we thought it would feel too "cold". Now I realize we could have used an area rug! Live and learn, right? LOL

On your new vinyl flooring--make sure you follow the directions for cleaning. Just a slightly damp mop and don't use any other products unless it's something reccommended by the mfg. I used one of those Swiffer wet pads on mine and it left a "film" so it doesn't shine like when new now. And remember, liquids are it's enemy! Other than that, it is almost indestrucible and easy to clean. Enjoy!

Thanks you, gals, for the pics comments & also the advice w/the laminate flooring...I am excited, too...it's going to be a big mess w/cutting & such all happening 'inside' the house...but we live in IA ...so that's part of deal having it done now. I think it's going to take longer getting everything back tog & of course, I'll need to shop for an area rug. ;-) And, luvs, yes, that berber wears forever! I couldn't believe how long it's lasted!

Sorry it's that cold for you, punk...cause that means you'll be passing that on to me in a day or two! ;-)

    And, you're welcome, creek...thanks for asking. ;-) Jeanne S.
