I have one on my 94 Buick Regal work car.I bought the car used and it was already installed.I wish I had it on my newer cars but I dought I will ever have it installed.

I use it and like it during the Hot summer so I can start the car and get it cooled down after a Hot sweaty day at work.However I seldome use it during the winter.Because I prefere to turn off all accesories to help assure a cold start up and I like to be in the car when it starts just incase something goes wrong.Mainly because older cars can do strange things in cold weather.If it was a newer car I probably would use it however.

I personally would not want to try to install one.But that is because im not real electrical inclinded.Wires and harnesses scare me.

But if it was to get very cold and wanted to keep the car engine a little warm to make sure it would start in the morning.In the past I have litterally went out in the cold blast to start a car every hour or two all night.Just so I would know it would start in the morning.I could just start the car from the house every hour rather then going out to do it.They will run for so long then shut down with these devices.Would save me a trip out and then freezing to go back out to shut it off.Maybe you have never had to do this.But being from Michigan perhaps you have?

Maybe I am paranoid... and old... ..
But I think this is just one more thing to go wrong.
I can see no worthwhile benefit...
If I were wealthy and drove a new car, then I would have a different opinion.

Some cars have a special device in the key that only allows the car to start with the key. Should check that out before buying the remote start. My DD got one and her boyfriend is an auto tech. He said he would have to dismantle the entire electrical system to bypass the key. Luckily she could return it.

Thanks, Yes I have heard about the computer chip in the key. She doesn't have that. I do and the guy at the car shop said you could buy something to bypass that (additional $30) so luckily she doesn't have that. Yes, it does get cold in Michigan and I remember all too well starting the car during the night to make sure it would start when I had to go to work. Luckily we now drive newer vehicles and not the fix or repair daily ones anymore.

I'd be cautious about a remote starter. I'm not sold on its benefits versus potential problems. A few years back on a cold winter day, the boy of an associate of mine ran out of the house, started a car in the driveway, then dashed back into the house to finish breakfast while the car warmed up. Twenty minutes later, the fireman arrived to douse the car fire. They saved the garage and house, but there was burn area in the ashpalt drive. The car was totaled. Luckily, a neighbor saw the fire and called the fire company.

i have them on all 3 of my cars love them, both hyundais came with them factory installed, and i had a local shop add one to my toyota. nice in the summer too, can start it up with the air on to cool it down.

Im not sure about the computer chip in the key not allowing the car to start using the remote car start.Because my Buick Regal has the little chip made into the key and it works?However as mentioned before I never installed it I bought the car used with it already installed.But I know the previous owner I bought it from very well.He did it him self and he said it was a piece of cake to install.

the key chip is a resistor measure the resistance, the pick one up at radio shack open the steering colunm, cut the wires and solder it in. bypassed.

Installed one in my 91 Prisim a couple of years ago, no big deal. Only problem I ran into was a feedback in the break circuit, took two phone calls to the company. I didn't think that was so unreasonable. By the way the one I put in was from BullDog Security. Now I'm trying to figure out a same way to put it into a vehicle with a standard transmission.
