I use a product called Goof-Off and haven't found anything it hasn't worked on. I believe i got it at lowe's. It comes in a little can like the old lighter fluid cans. It talkes off labels, crayons, magic markers. It's made in the USA and has a web site.

Oh no....I was afraid itd be something like that...im glad I only tested in a very small end spot of design so as to not be noticeable should the attempt backfire...how very disapointing...it's hard enough finding a set of vintage lamps like that together and in the process of doing so not being forced to pay an arm and a leg to aquire them....but now it looks like I won't even get to keep them...as im looking for glass without any such design...damn. laurenjean and paintguy- It''s true that lacquer thinner is a powerful solvent, but 1: If the marble is sealed, all the overspray should be on top of the sealer and the razor blade should remove all of it overspray, making a wipe with lacquer thinner unnecessary. 2. If there is no sealer, a wipe with lacquer thinner shouldn't hurt marble. (Marble is typically damaged by acid compounds, like lemon juice, or alkalis, like drain cleaner. If one has concerns, you could test the thinner on a marble scrap or a small unnoticeable area. However, if it's real marble, and not some man-made composite, there should not be an issue.) 3, Sealer can be reapplied in any case...it's not like trying to match a stain.

Mineral spirits certainly won't be strong enough. Maybe it would work on a shiny surface like a wood floor with a lot of elbow grease but not for carpet. Lacquer thinner might work but I don't know that I would want to saturated my carpet with that. Have you considered replacing carpet just in that area? Sometimes depending on the type of carpet you can do repairs and it doesn't show.
