I'm really not familiar with your thrower. It sounds as though that the clutch is not fully disengaging from your description.

IâÂÂll hope itâÂÂs a simple cable matter since we had to rem the cable to weld. The initial problem was the 6âÂÂ- 4â loaned noticed the handles were not positioned as they were. The Bottom Line is my 45 yr Mechanical Friend Is Too Busy! to take his time even with all his equipment. The 45 yr Non Mechanical Friend will not look for or know a simple needed adjustment or etc.. In my case, we have enjoyed knowing/helping each other in many Fun Matters and Etc and hope this will not be a true issue. Unless we find something solid as damaged or needed adjustments, I feel our good visits, fishing and projects might be in the past. I guess we are off to the Garden soon to see the complaint and hopefully a good solution (when my arm is twisted by both vs talk). More Zip-Ties vs one, a restricted twisted cable, un-painted weld is all I can visualize (that were to be taken care of after the weld), if there is no mechanical damage. This design has been around for many years. Between the engine and rear axle is a pulley assy with two belts. The center of the pulley moves between the two belts - changing the diameter of the pulley. This assembly hold up well even with a lot of service. Belts are difficult to change. The rear axle is a fixed gear ratio with forward and reverse. If the tractor is tasked with towing, the rear gear frequently fails. Sometimes the aluminum case cracks. The sheetmetal front axle beam is also a weak area. The MTD garden tractor that used this design worked ok. The smaller models are light duty and in my experience - wear out quicker than tractors from other manufacturers.

Where was the the blue smoke coming from? the engine, under the deck, or the rearend? The transmission (rearend) is probably a splicer. The one I got is a sealed unit. so servicing not going to be easy plus if it leaked out you will have the leak to deal with also. I would download a manual from sears to find out what oil (or grease)goes in the the transmission. usually tht model of transmission is gears connected with a chain inside the two half housing. The drive belt from the engine to the transmission can or starts to slip, smoke, streching, and causing clutch release problems which will in turn cause shifting dificulity cause the pulling connected to the rear end is still turning. I would make sure the drive belt has good tension and not burnt up with the clutch released before I would attempt to regrease the transmission, plus it the transmission leaked all the grease out there should be evidents of this under the rearend???
