The Model No. is 917.272248. I can't seem to find how to remove the clutch locator in order to get the belt off the front pulleys. The manual that I have doesn't seem to make sense to me. They always make it sound so easy until you get underneath the tractor and try to make sense of their directions. If anyone has personally replaced the motion drive belt and could give me some insight as to what the best way to remove and replace the belt I would be very thankful to any suggestions.

Garden Way, which was headquartered in Troy, NY and was best known for it's "Troy-Bilt" brand, bought Bolens in Port Washington, WI in the late 1980's. They closed the Wisconsin plant in 1997, and declared bankruptcy in 2001, selling most of their brand names and models to MTD. I had the larger 20hp Kohler 50" deck version of that Scotts by Murray from Home Depot. I have a manual for that model and looked at the "diagnostic dash" as they call it. There are warning lights on the left and right for various things but the LCD only shows hours and there is no mention of error codes. I never saw anything on the LCD except hours. If the LCD is showing scrambled letters or numbers perhaps it got a static hit. Disconnect the ground terminal of the battery and let it sit overnight. Hook the battery cable back up in the morning and see what it shows. It will remember the hours if it is working correctly. Another possibility, if the connections of the LCD at the circuit board are damaged, shorted, wet, or corroded the display can go nuts. If you remove the diagnostic dash and look carefully it can be disassembled and cleaned. If you want the manual let me know and we can work something out.

Hi, The dealer just delivered it to me yesterday, Oct 19, so it's a new thing to me. It is a 2005 model probably just like yours, has 340 hours on it and looks and runs like new. I have had a 265 for years and it took a little adjusting for me to get used to the GX355 but it seems great. Yesterday afternoon I ran it for 2 hours mowing and mulching leaves and now feel very comfortable with it. The web site you sent me with the manual has helped me very much. Thanks
