Problem with trunk

I have a 2006 VW Beetle and I can't get the trunk open. I have tried several times by punching the button on the key ring and the inside door switch, but it just sound like it is trying to open, but it doesn't. It seems like something is not catching. What do I nned to do?

OK, this is going to sound like dumb advice, but when you press on the key fob or pull on the door switch, do you then go back to the trunk and open it from the latch? The button/switch unlocks the trunk, but it doesn't pop open like it does on some other cars. If you grab the handle (over the license plate, I believe; I have a Jetta, which is similar to a Beetle, but not identical) with your thumb on the painted-metal part, your other fingers should be underneath the handle. Press against the latch with those fingers. It should "give" a little and the trunk should then open.

If the trunk still doesn't open, you might need to bring it back to VW for a repair.

Is there something in the trunk that is pushing it outward and stop[ping the latch from releasing?

You might try pushing down slightly on it while you manually unlock it.

Typically the remotes operate a plunger type solenoid which pushes on the latch mechanism. If for some reason the plunger is no longer in position with the latch, then the solenoid will "pop" like it's operating (because it is) but won't do anything. Have you tried opening it manually at all?

Whaas, you believe in speaking your mind ;) Its funny, 2 people suggested a redbud to me in the last 24 hours. Redbuds in my area (western chicago burbs) have uniformly unhealthy, weak, thin, gnarly trunks. Beautiful purple flowers, but less and less each year and they seem to always be dying. The redbuds at the Morton Arboretum look similarly unhealthy. I actually bought a a small redbud at the annual Arboretum plant sale to donate to my town's landscape, it sent out an ugly 6 foot shoot (a last act of defiance?) and promptly died the next spring. The gingkos on my street have thin, long branches. I found a red japanese maple I really like, its Twombly's Red Sentinel. The tree has fall colors (yellow / orange) now in mid July. The nursery said it came out that way in the spring, never became deeper red / purple. Has anybody seen this? Perhaps its from disease or stress? If not, its an awesome fall look all summer.

xnergx its usually a good idea to water a little every day till the roots start growing into the native soil. Not a deep watering but a light watering. As it is it sounds like your tree is either experiencing transplant shock or being over watered or both. It is still hot here. For those that don't live here it was 98 degrees F here today. The tree sounds like its going to die soon if you don't change course here. I would stop watering for 3-4 days. Then I would water every day in the morning just a little. By a little I mean. Take your hose and in one sweeping circular motion water around the perimeter of the root ball for a total of five seconds. One thousand One, One Thousand two, One thousand three, One thousand four, One thousand Five. For whatever reason this tree is drowning so more than that is too much. I would also recommend a very gentle amendment. One ounce of Maxicrop Plus Iron per gallon of water. I would water in two gallons in the place of your light watering every third watering for two weeks.

I called a tree trimmer/cert arborist today. Murray's tree service-- in case any of you have used prior. He's supposed to come out on Thurs. to take a look and give me an estimate on trimming the oak. He said that it does indeed sound like the fungal problem that is going around Pinellas and Hillsborough currently. He said that professional growers have lost a lot of trees to it this year. It is an airborne fungus and highly contagious and will kill your tree and also spread to others. Definitely not good news. Today, I noticed my orange tree now has the same symptoms. He also recommended the copper fungicide as well, which I will definitely try (have not found any YET...at least at Lowes). But he said that it has not provided much to prevent the ultimate decline of the tree. I'm going to wait to see what he says further once he gets here on Thursday and will try the copper stuff. I'm not one to cut down a tree unless it is actually dead or close to it. While it is still bearing fruit and has leaves, it can stay in my yard. I am hoping for a miracle.... :(
