| can a ford rearend have shims added to the gears in the middle of rearend to take out vibrating and excessive play |

| The integral rear axle is set up with shims. The shims used set pinion gear depth, ring gear backlash, and ultimately side bearing pre-load. Shims cannot normally be changed to attempt to make up for wear or some other type of failure. |
