The rapid flashing of that light usually indicates it is receiving a signal of some kind not necessarily connected to a door opener. Have you added anything new to your garage or home that plugs in? Even something as strange as a fish tank heater can cause interference. Do you have an old door opener remote laying around that isn't used? When something interferes it can block the receiver so your normal remotes won't work. This is what sounds like and you are going to have to do some sleuthing.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I told my husband last night about the suggestion regarding painting the doors the taupe. He thought it interesting and wanted me to get more feedback. Well it looks like more agree so I will have to tell him we should go ahead and do that. I love the idea about a book shelf or I was even thinking a ladder shelf Pier 1 or Pottery Barn since that is kind of the style of my home. I wish I had before pictures. We have only had our digital camera for a year and we started this room several years ago and have done everything in stages. My husband had this home as a bachelor so you can imagine the color choices he had going. :) I like the idea of plants but I am afraid since I had a bad experience with a pet dying after what my vet thinks was from a Peace Lilly. I had a cat that died so after that I never had real plants in my home again. I have two small dogs. I will try moving the rocking chair. Let me know if you have any other ideas.

What roarah wrote. Usually drain or sewer flies. Shower drains are common sites for habitation, sink drains less so. They tend to lay eggs in partially clogged pipes, they like the held moisture. Flies usually come out at night, the larvae can be seen in and around the plumbing fixture in question. They might have come out of the drain and found a nice moist area in the track. Or if the track is moist and gunked up, it's possible eggs could have been laid there. Easy way to diagnose is cover the shower drain with tape, sticky side down. Run lengths of tape across the drain with a small air gap between the lengths of tape. It might take a few days, but you may eventually see a fly stuck to the tape. Remediation is to snake the line to remove any buildup that is holding moisture. Flush well. Then I recommend a scour with salt/baking soda/vinegar, let it bubble and sit, or use an enzyme-based drain cleaner. Flush well. The goal is to scour the sides of the drain pipe clean to remove the moist gunk that they use for an egg laying site. Tape the drain again and see if any more flies show.

If removing a wall for a more open plan, I'd remove the wall between the kitchen and LR/FR, but that would eliminate a wall of storage and counter space. Some counter and cabinet space can be added with an island, and with extending the perimeter into the breakfast area, but then you won't have space for a table. Assuming the window in the breakfast area is low, a bench or other low cabinet could be placed there. Your plan is not to scale, so although this would be the general layout if you moved the entries to the kitchen and DR, see the plan on the grid for actual scale. This plan has the fridge in a convenient location to the DR, bedroom hallway, and living spaces, but the DW and dish storage is not as convenient to the DR. However, by making the clean-up zone m/l separate from the prep and cooking zones, helpers can load or unload the DW, or gather dishes to set the table, without interfering in prep/cooking tasks. Since a corner susan might be difficult to access in the corner between the range and fridge, I voided that space. You could add drawers which could be accessed from the hall, if you needed extra storage space for linens or other items. Normally I'd put the trash to the right of the sink, but putting it on the island keeps it convenient to all zones and allows you to have a second wide drawer base. If you frequently have help in the kitchen and want a prep sink, dishes could move to the right of the clean-up sink, with the trash pull-out to the left of prep sink on the island.
