IF we get back to our normally hot, DRY summers, the rust outbreaks should subside. Right now, that seems like a really big "IF". I'm taking the opportunity to pass along those which rust really badly to people who do spray or who live where rust pressure isn't quite as bad. To spray or not is your personal choice. I can't/won't. I can't afford the expense right now. Even if I could, I don't think I would. What's going to happen once "synthetic insecticides" are outlawed for home garden use here as they already have been in much of Canada and Europe? This is one reason Pickering discontinued so many roses. We can use this as preparation for when that day arrives (as you know it will). My best reason is, there is very little I can spray I won't react to. My roses are in nearly constant breezes to winds and there is nothing I can do about it. It's the nature of the beast on a hill. They're in full, hot sun which can cause chemical burn from sprays. If you can spray and not become physically affected by it; if it fits your budget and you don't mind that expense for that purpose; if your conditions permit you to spray without further damage, and you don't mind it, spray them. Or, keep track of the worst offenders for when that day comes when we can't spray. Kim

You need to use a stiff wire brush to get off all the loose rust. Also the surface needs to be clean and dry - so wipe it down after you wire brush. I would first use something like Rustoleum Rust Reformer. It converts the iron oxide (rust) so it won't continue to rust under the top coat. Then spray with the Rustoleum of your choice.

Most likely contamination, but stainless can of course corrode as well if exposed to certain conditions (that’s why there are thousands of different alloys). Most stainless is sold to ASMT/ASME standards stipulating the chemical composition, but what some are pointing out is that there is an allowed range for each alloying element and generally Asian manufacturers alloy low to maintain a low cost. A 304/304L SS from brand x is not necessarily alloyed as high as a 304/304L from brand y. The chemical composition, even within the allowed min/max range for the same alloy will have an impact on the corrosion resistance. Still, I think this is contamination and should come out. If not, you can remove it mechanically and the steel will reform the chromium oxide layer.

Olive green will look great in here and I've always liked that CB one that is your first choice. Look up the seat height to be sure it is high enough for your dad to get out of comfortably. (Just shopped for seating for my arthritic parents to sit in when they visit.) .The second one you posted doesn't look comfortable for getting out of. This one has a 21" high seat and good arm height. Arhaus. Don't know if the brass is what you are going for though in your space.
