x304 4w steering
Comments (8)Remember that the setup of the steering geometry on the X304 is CRUDE. No adjustment for caster or camber and toe in or out is rarely set properly. Regardless of how the power is applied on the X304 the mass of the tractor IS powered from the rear and that has an effect on the steering in corners while the 4wd truck front wheel(s) are powered (at least one) and is (are) pulling through the corner while the mass of the truck is being pushed from the rear AND the steering geometry is more correct and the diameter of the truck wheels is far larger than the front wheels on the X304. You are comparing two vehicles at opposites of the spectrum in general design, steering design, power train design, mass, and execution... apples and oranges....See MoreSteering Problem on Truck
Comments (9)That's some pretty good information to work from. Let me start with the handling complaint, and work from there. A vehicle drifting to the right could have an alignment issue, a tire issue, or could simply be following the crown of the road. Roads are not flat, they are high in the center to help water run off, or they could be sloped all the way across as in a banked turn. There are specs that have a technician check for just how quickly a vehicle leads to one side. If the lead is less than a given amount, then no repairs are indicated. This is somewhat subjective, but can in fact be proven by an experienced tech. As far as why didn't they start the truck and drive it in? I have that answer right away. I can just hear someone saying, "WE TOLD YOU XXXX WAS LEAKING, WHY DID YOU START THIS UP???" You see sometimes no matter what the tech does, he/she is going to be wrong somehow, to someone. But think about it, if the tech is wrong no matter what they do, then that is not fair and if you were the tech you'd be the first to protest. I don't know what was wrong with the truck, but the fact that it had to be towed, and pushed into the shop suggests the leak was serious, and maybe the truck didn't even run. Turning the wheel without power steering assist is a hard thing to have to do. Ford knows this, and has built the system to be able to do that if necessary. Having to push it into the shop, without the engine running will NOT hurt the steering on the truck. Read this next sentence and stop for a second and think about it before you go on. "I never noticed the truck pulling to the right, before the truck went into the shop last week." Does that sound like your friends current statement? Tell me where in that sentence does it say that the truck did not in fact actually lead to the right before it went into the shop? The answer is, it doesn't. It simply says he didn't notice that it did and in that you are likely to find the greatest explanation of what is going on. Once the truck went in for the last repair, what ever it was. Now your friend is looking at the truck closer and noticed something he does not like. From there it's not a big stretch hor him to assume that turing the steering without the engine running had something to do with this percieved difference. Which brings us to the last part of the post. The steering wheel lock only applies in one position. If you want to test to see if it still works, jack up the front of the truck so both front wheels are off the ground. Now with the keys in your pocket, turn the wheels side to side by hand and see if the column locks....See MoreHelp! Lost RP Recipes
Comments (15)The Cherry Cake recipe I got from here, although I thought it was from Carolyn: 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar 1 9-oz pkg Philadelphia Cream Cheese, softened 1 cup margarine, softened 1-1/2 tsp vanilla 4 eggs 2 cups sifted cake flour 1-1/2 tsp baking powder 3/4 cups well drained chopped maraschino cherries, salad cherries are fine 1/4 cup cake flour Glaze: 1-1/2 cups sifted confectioner's sugar 2 tablespoons milk Preheat oven to 325 degrees First, chop the maraschino cherries and set aside. (I chop the small ones in half, larger into quarters.) Thoroughly mix the cake flour with baking powder. Combine sugar, cream cheese, margarine and vanilla, mixing until well blended. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Gradually add 2 cups flour and baking powder, mixing well after addition. Toss the cherries with the 1/4 cups flour, trying to coat each piece of cherry. Fold into the batter. Pour into a 10 inch tube pan, greased and bake for 1 hour 20 minutes. Cake is done when it is light gold and toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for 5 minutes; remove from pan. Cool thoroughly. When cooled, combine the glaze ingredients and drizzle over cake. Garnish with cherries. Notes: Make sure you watch it while it's baking and check it after an hour- if toothpick comes out clean, it's done. Don't let the cake cool for any more than 5t minutes before removing from the pan; it will stick! This cake freezes well. Wrap it well and thaw it for 24 hours prior to serving. Don't glaze before freezing. The original recipe called for 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans to be sprinkled into the greased pan before adding the batter. I've never tried it but it's probably good. In lieu of cake flour, I have used 1 cup regular flour less 2 tablespoons and it works just fine. Can also be made in 5 greased and floured 5-3/4 X 3-1/4 inch loaf pans. Bake at 325 for 45-50 minutes. I made it with pecans and it was lovely...See MoreToro self-propelled mower steering issue
