 o
98 Grand Am SE Transmission problem

I have a 98 Pontiac Grand Am SE (6 cyl). When you put the transmission shifter into Park (with the engine running), the key won't turn back far enough to let you remove it. The ignition stays in the "ON" position.
Is there a way to bypass this safety feature? I currently must bang like heck on the shifter so the key will release to be removed.
Please let me know.
Thanks

Stop banging things and have the shift lever adjusted
properly.

It sounds like the shifter is failing, pretty common.

Probably the interlock need adjusting, or it has some worn parts that need replacing. Banging it around is no cure and may worsen things. Get it fixed and loose the agravation.
